His sig says he has a GT500 , hence why I asked why he would go smaller.

Now I just re-read the OP, and it says he has a GT. So the opposite would be true. For something simple and cheap dropping a 5.4 in there is neither.

Agree that we don't always scan the gauges enough, But a good practise, which I do now, is to check them on start-up while waiting for the idle to drop to normal before driving off. Someone once said the usual time for the oil pump to fail is on the start. Would probably have caught this too.

Well I was assuming he knew a 5.4l was bigger than our stock motor and though maybe he didn't realize a 302 was bigger as well.
