Default Salesman Ugh!

Finally found a beastly looking Kona blue gt,talks sound good on phone, drive an hour to get there and it is a sweet looking ride.Hide my emotions as i am bursting inside, old title in hand ready to seal the deal!
I whip out the Xplan paperwork and it went to hell from there. All of a sudden my trade wasn't worth squat.Guess they wanted to make up on the back what they couldn't in the front.
Started the blah blah blah, that they weren't making any money and had no room to work.I know they get money from Ford for Xplan sale and holdback money plus handling, not to mention what they were going to make on my trade.
Wanted to give me 14,500 for my 07 premium when they had 2 07 premiums on the lot,1 for 21k and 1 for 20k.
The search continues...
At this point,i think i am just going to sell it locally.I really like the 11's.I really like my car too, just not gonna give it away.

From what I understand, dealers hardly every go by KBB nor NADA.

Trading-in to a dealership is like going to a pawn shop. Both places have to make money on the car they are buying from you, so your never gonna get full value...they need to also make money off the car; plus the dealerships have over-head to pay for so we could shop there. Were all better off selling our cars privately.

Sure i understand this and understand they need to make money,i never disputed that.Like i said they are making money,
1. from holdbacks
2. from manufacturers for x plan pricing
3. if they are offering me 14.5 and they have 2 on their used lot for 20k each, that is a problem
4. you say they hardly ever go by nada or kbb but when you go their to buy a used car from a dealer, they quote from these books like they are the bible.
Like i said,i am going to try and sell it privately,i have been tracking used 200-5-2009 used stang prices for a couple months.I was willing to take a little hit for convenience just not willing to take a beat down because they wanted make $8k profit.

I hate dealers! they use whatever book that gives you the least $$ for your trade-in, then go by whatever book is the highest for theyre resale...crooks! ive never looked forward to buying a new car just because of all the B.S. keep looking , youll eventualy find someone willing to make you a better offer.

Try Carmax and see what they will offer you for it.

It might be a better deal.

Good idea....I forgot about them. In the past I knew people who were trading in their cars and the Ford dealer wouldn't give them a fair price. They went to Car Max and got another/up to $2000.00 more on their trade in value. It's worth looking into...it's not BS!! Good luck!!

Thanks,i'll give them a shot, there is one about a half hour away, guess it couldn't hurt.I have also listed it locally so i'll see how it works out.
The $2,000 cash back from ford ends on 4\4\11 so i was hoping to get in before that ends,on top of the x plan pricing and the $750 brochure rebate, that is some really nice savings without trying to haggle with a salesman on msrp.
Only downside to selling my car locally and putting down cash is the beating i will take on taxes. One of the reasons i was trying to go the trade in route and taking the hit on trade in value. The hit was offset by the difference in taxes i had to pay.
