Default current 3v owner looking for 5.0

I currently own a 2006 legend lime gt that is my daily driver. I bought the car used amd found out the previous owner installed 4.10s. This car has been the most fun and reliable car I've ever owned. However I love the look of the new 11-13s and among other reasons would like to upgrade to one.

As of now my current commute to work is 31 miles each way. With how my car is setup I am getting at best 17.5 mpg(80% hwy and 20% city). With the new 5.0 6spd and 3.55 gears what are u getting for fuel economy?
Also I will likely be buying used so what are somethings to look out for onna used car?
Thanks in advance.
Jeremy

I drive about 21 miles 60/40 and steadily average 20 +/-1 MPG. 3:31s I drive bad

My 07 I traded last year averaged 19 3:73s

Things that I look out for and I am sure I will leave some off. Some for negotiating purposes or STAY AWAY...I am a little picky and some may be silly, but here ya go.

Tired tread (even?)
bolts on fenders from engine bay (wrecked? Why were they be tampered with?)
Numbers on any parts in engine bay (junk yard)
pull carpet in rear to check for water damage
Spare tire and jack present (safety)
check for aftermarket parts and gauge accordingly
Check bolts on strut tower brace (touched - removed, why? Blower, intake, etc.)
rub finger on back of hood line (rough = painted) potential wreck
turn key over to make sure check engine light works (bulb not busted or removed to conceal CEL.)
undercarriage for leaks, crazy up north rust, etc.
Fender, hood, door gaps.. Are they even?
Check CHANGE OIL INDICATOR
Check all fluids
Check rear end (over abundance of silicone generally means cover has been removed and may have gears.
check current MPGS listed by indicator (high is great and low generally means I WAS DOGGED OUT)

of course, run a autocheck or carfax

I have a 2013 with 3.73s and I am getting just over 17 all around mileage.
As far as what to look for in a used car. Unusual noises while driving with the windows down and radio off. Check under the car for rust or for anything amiss. 99gtstang pretty much hit on it, though. Use your gut and look at a lot of different cars. Happy hunting!

This brought something to my attention, not to derail the thread.

How would I know what gears I have? Can I do the RPM trick? 60 mph in 4th gear turning whatever RPM's divided by a number?

I bought the car used. I assume it is stock, but not positive.

Lift the car, put a chalk mark on drive shaft, then use the air valve on the wheel as another marker. SPin the wheel and count the rotations between a complete wheel rotation and a complete driveshaft rotation then do the math.

If the car is stock, it's on the rear end housing.

75mph will be around 2500rpm with 4.10's (with around stock tire size that is) but judging by the pic in your sig they look stock size

Going back to original topic, motor swap is a waste of time and too many headaches. Just supercharge your current engine.

On my '11 GT MT with 3.31 gears, when driving on the highway I got as high as 26.5 mpg but averaged depending on traffic around 24-25 mpg. I was really impressed by the fuel mileage this 400+ hp car can get while on cruise control.
