2005 or 2006 Saleen vs Ford Shelby Cobra
I read today that Motor Trend saids to avoid buying the Saleen that the new Cobra will be a better value. I hope I'm not pushing the envelope on this but the new Cobra was said to be priced around 40 to 45 thousand. I've seen Saleens in my area Charleston, South Carolina priced about 40 just for the 325 horsepower versions. If this is the case shouldn't Ford be ashamed for Saleen carrying out these prices? Anyway I know I will catch hell on this but I like to hear some Saleen owners comments. Others a course are welcome.

RE: 2005 or 2006 Saleen vs Ford Shelby Cobra
Saleen enthusiasts buy Saleens for their reasons - and Shelby/Cobra/SVT enthusiasts buy their Shelby/Cobra/SVT's for their reasons. There is no right answer to this question - you just need to decide what enthusiast you want to be. Hell, if you are fortunate enough - just buy one of each and end the personal debate
As for Saleens being overprice - buy a GT, and buy EVERY SINGLE mod that Saleen puts on the car, tabulate every single hour it takes to complete the installs, and I'd be hard pressed to believe you saved any money.
If they make 10,000+ (I think thats the number I read way back when) of the '07 Shelbys as they initially stated, then the Saleens hold more of a "collector" value from a rarity standpoint. If you are a gear-head and looking for mods to make SERIOUS power the maybe the Shelby will be your cup of tea.
I just don't see this as being a debate, they are both ultra-cool vehicles and its just a matter of opinoins - which are just like a$$holes [8D]

RE: 2005 or 2006 Saleen vs Ford Shelby Cobra
If Mustang GT's were going for over MSRP when they first came out, and Saleen dealers were trying to get 5-10K over MSRP early in 2005, then what do you think the bump will be on the Cobra when it finally hits. I still don't see how they can price tag it at $40K which is what I am still hearing. With all the ground effects, suspension, wheels, SC, other little mods - and oh yeah, the SHELBY name on it - how can it not be a $50K car [&:] I can't wait until it finally arrives to see the final tag - I think we will be looking at some serious dealership GREED when they get them. Kind of like the Ford GT, but at at a lower price point of cours.
