No one is going to know which gets better because people with the exact same car get a 4-6 mpg difference. With that high of gearing i doubt 10 mpg is doable on a c4 or c6 auto in a 4000 lb car. Best approach is shedding weight with your current engine and beef up the driveline and suspension. See where that gets you timewise and then figure out what the next steps are.
