Ignition Question
Hey guys hadn't been on the forum in a long time. I just recently swapped jobs and am making some money to where I can finally get rid of my old inline 6 and swap it for a 302.
So heres what I have going on. I have a 1980 Fox that came with an inline six. I have pulled the motor and transmission and am in the processes of doing the front K-member swap. I am just a moderately educated gear head and am stumped on one question.
I bought a 5.0 from a 91 Lx that a buddy pulled that has only 40,000 miles on a rebuild but is in need of new piston rings. Not a big deal, was planning on tearing it down anyway to swap the heads and intake. I plan on converting it to a carbureted motor.
My question is, about the Ignition module. My inline six motor had it but I don't exactly know what it does, or which one I should get for the new motor. I know the distributor gets spark from the coil and the coil gets its power from the ignition box. Can I just get a HEI distributor and call it a day? I'm not planning on going over 400 HP with this build, just in the mid 3's.
Thanks for any help
Dustin
