Default ANYONE WITH A COBRA II??

My buddy just bought a 1976 Cobra II and is fixing to start restoring it....I, as you see, have an 03. I also have a 92 and a 95 which are alot newer than a 76 so i know nothing about them. So I have a few questions and will probably come up with a lot more. One, is it possible to convert it to efi?? Is there a Haynes Manual for it??? Is it possible to convert to 5-lug?? what size rearend?? What were the hp and tq ratings for these stock??

tell your buddy congrats, he has some class

converting to efi? sure, just ****** a complete setup from a junkyard 5.0 and make it work. its been done in everything from 1920's hot rods to 1960's mustangs - all it takes is an assload of labor, a little bit of smarts, and a donor car.

there are haynes and chilton manuals for the II's, you might find the haynes at a local auto parts store but they can both be found on the internet. the chilton is one of those smaller ones, but even still probably has some information the haynes does not.

5 lug? larger rotors and calipers for the front are easily found and are available a ford or gm 5 lug pattern. the rear end i believe 5 lug conversions as well as disc conversions are available, though it may be easier to score an 8.8 out of something from the 80's or 90's. you'd have to pay attention to the width of the different rearends and probably relocate the spring perches. btw, stock rear ends are 8" and he would need to look at the tag on it to find out what ratio he had. could be in the high 2's or could be a 3.40

stock hp was like 140 or something - pathetic. opening up the exhaust, dropping even a slightyly larger cam (that would work with stock springs) along with a dual plane intake and a 600 cfm 4bbl would give a SUBSTANTIAL boost in power. whats great about earlier motors is you can get cam and lifters for as cheap as 100.00 a set, intakes for 150 bucks, and even a new carb is only about 300.

tell your buddy to drop in and say hey, we'd like to see pics!

This is a pretty good listing of parts and pieces places for the II compiled by my77stang:
https://mustangforums.com/m_3509070/tm.htm
I've had some pretty good success finding some parts and pieces on E-Bay. Some of the parts are so hard to come by that your friend is going to end up paying dearly for them.....sometimes luck will help you as well.
Definitely check out www.mustangii.net they are an excellent resource, loads of info can be found there.
Happy hunting......

+6 on checking out www.mustangii.net

I don't know how many times that site has helped me out. It nice not to be made fun of either. But yeah, tell your friend to make a visit here, we'd really like to see some pics. Plus, we can probably answer any questions he has. BTW, what color combo is his II? Just curious.

I'm not sure if the Fox 5 lug swaps will work but there is no shortage of ways to do it, the mustang II front suspension/end is a popular peice in everything from old hot rods, to Novas. So five lug rotors and such are easy to come by. The rear end is easy to swap out, so that's no problem either. He is going to have a slight issue with wheels and tires but there are plenty of people on II.Net that could tell him what will and won't work.
