I'm a Chevy guy from the late 60's. I had a number of Vettes, Chevelles, Camaros, and even a Vega. I now own an 05 Mustang GT as my toy. I think the new Camaro is also too futuristic looking. GM hasn't produced a really nice muscle car in a long time. The SSR was a flop, the GTO was another abortion, and I think the new Camaro will fall to the same demise also. The one thing that I see might kill all these cars again is these HorsePower Wars. In the early 70's not only emisisons killed these types of cars but also insurance rates for HighPerfomance Cars. I know when I was young I always wanted more go too, but now I hope this doesn't send this new generation into extinction because of insurance costs. Chevy should forget the Camaro and build an awesome Retro 67 Chevelle. I also don't think Chevy will compete price wise with the Mustang everything they make is for the Rich and Famous. May be thats why there in so much trouble.

I 'm also a Chevy guy...had a'69 when I was 16. Then on to Nova, (2) Monte Carlo's, '55, '57, and some p/u's. Show me a '69 retro Yenko, SS/RS, or Z/28 and I'm there. I've been a huge critic of the new Camaro's looks but I just read something which is food for thought. Apparently some auto industry insiders predict a much more modern looking Mustang in the next redesign. They suggest the retro look is good for a short term market grab but will not sustain sales over time. If that's true this new Camaro will be a design that's more on par with where the Mustang will be in 2009-2010. I'm no industry analyst, but that was the first explanation of the Camaro's design strategy that made some sense. Time will tell if they're right and if the market will warm up to the new design the way it has to the new Stang.

If they go with a newer looking stang in the next version I will sh i t my pants and throw it on the designers. The best stangs have always been the classic muscle looking ones.

I think it's inevitable that the mustang will evolve back towards a more aerodynamic contemporary car as time goes on. But I think the next gen Mustangs (in 2009-2010) will probably still have some noticeable retro genes showing. As far as the new Camaro concept, well..........lets face it ppl.....its just a concept. Look at the concept mustangs that came out before the S197's hit production..........quite a bit of change since then huh? Who knows how the new Camaro's will look in relation to their concept form when they hit the streets.

I say get rid of the Silverado sized bowtie on the grill and put some 4th gen inspired tail lamps on there.......that would be a really good start. Then do away with the chop top and give the forward quarters more "hips". The concept is a good start. And I won't lie........from a straight up front profile it looks mean as hell. But there a few of the designers ideas that just don't wash very well. Overall, the current concept looks too much "Cadillac meets Corvette". When you look at this car you should be able to tell, without any help from emblems and such, that this is a CAMARO. That directive should be GM designers' top priority going into the production design.

I don't think the performance side of things needs to be addressed. I think we all know that GM will make sure the new Camaro is hell on wheels. My only concern is how much is it gonna set someone back to get behind the wheel of this kind of performance?

I had a '69 SS/RS, and it was great. But this new "thing" dont even come close to resembling it. And it has an agressive, if a bit "insane" look on its grill. Thumbs down for me. However, that new Challenger is almost enough to get me to trade in the Stang. Its near perfect and in some ways, looks better than the originals. Leave it to GM to mess up a wet dream. [:'(]

Well from what I know the base model will carry the LS2. However the SS model which will be introduced one year later will have a somewhat detuned LS7 from the C6 z06.

I read an article, (I don't recall the Mag)
that the Camero will base at 40k+ and the Challanger will be 32K+. I will find the article for ya.

I like the Dodge Challanger

If the Challenger (with a V8) really will base around $32K, that's going to steal some major Mustang GT sales! And if what you say about the Camaro being $40K is true, it's going to once again be priced out of competition. And if it stays at that gargantuan size, it's also going to still be less practical than the Mustang. Who's going to want to maneuver that bohemoth around a parking lot, let alone trying to squeeze it through the garage door (for those of us with double garage doors. This one cuts it close for me at 74.4 inches wide:

I can draw pictures of cars. Until I see an actual production vehicle, I can't get too excited about a big maybe.
Thats why it's not a drawing anymore....the concept Camero was in the flesh at the Chicago Auto Show

Personaly, i think the Challenger is gonna blow it away...the new challenger, minus a very few slight differences, is a carbon copy of the old school one.

Even though I think GM is going to sell alot of Camaros I don't think they are going to outsell Ford's Mustang.

I went into the Dallas Auto Show being a huge fan of the Challenger concept and a hater of the Camaro concept. Both were at the show. I left the show with opposite opinions of the cars from when I got there. The Camaro is awesome, photos do not come close to doing it justice. It's really a beautiful car inside and out. It carries the vintage Camaro lines without compromising it's modern looks (much like the new Mustang). The Challenger on the other hand is gigantic. I didn't realize until later that it is built on the Chrysler 300 chassis, but that explains it's huge-ness. The Chrysler is a big car even for a 4 door, why in the world would they put a 2 door sporty car on the same chassis and expect it to work? Very disappointing. Those of you that are making your opinions based on photographs really need to see the actual cars, the photos do not tell the story.

Also remember that any speculation on pricing and horsepower ratings is just that, complete and total speculation. Whatever you read on the 'net is coming from people who don't know any more about these cars than you and me.

i think it's definitely a step toward better body design than what's been put out since the '70s...i do believe that this 'running concept' will be value engineered down drastically before production though...otherwise it's too close to the corvette in price and performance...and if the camaro is over $30K, there's no way i or many of the people i've talked to would buy it over a C6

imo, it's going to have to compete with the GT in price to have a chance when people can buy a new corvette for under $40k...but that's just my opinion

If you look at the old Challengers, they are wider and longer than the Mustangs of their times. There was alot more interior room than the Mustang as well. If they put it on the same frame as the Charger, then it will be as comparable in size as the original Challenger. Here is a link on the new Challenger. Here is a link on the 1970 version of the Challenger.

Agree.....The Challenger was never what you could call a small car......mush larger than the Mustang of the day....I think the new concept is staying true to the size difference.
