The 3.6l puts out 302 hp and 272 lb of torque. Weighing at least 200+ lbs more than a mustang, and coming in at 50 lbs of torque less,I wouldn't really worry about it.
Honestly, I really don't think those are the real numbers. I'm gonna wait to see the real specs. I think the Camaro will be capable of combating the Mustang to a degree, but I also believe it is just too late.
Ialso do not think they would risk putting the ls9 into a camaro which will lower the mpg considerably, and **** the Corvette guys off, just like they did with the LT1.
All my opinions of course.

Too late will depends. Chevrolet are actually being smart enough to release the Camaro in Europe and have designed it with Right hand drive in mind for the UK, Africa and Australian markets. And from what has been said it will be retailing for around about £25,000 here in the UK for the V8. Which would make it the cheapest V8 powered new car you can buy the G8 or as it is called here the VXR8 is over £35,000. And even with the $10+ gallon fuel prices sales of sports cars are pretty much at an all time high mainly small hot hatches but they are getting up past £20,000 now. So could sell rather well in Europe. Where as the only performance car Ford will have here is the Focus RS. Although there have been rumours of Ford bringing in a Mustang type car for the European market. The Mustang sold for a while in Germany I believe so can't see why they don't bring them over.

Good on GM for doing that then. Ford should: a) Bring the Aussie Falcon here b) Bring the Euro Focus here c) Send a Mustang to Aus and Europe
Hey you guys in Dearborn listening?

The thing is the Mustang is just as big an icon here as it is there. So it would get sales.
If Chevy bring the Camaro here to stay competitive Ford are going to have to bring in a Mustang. As Given the chance between a 6.2 litre V8 Camaro or a 2.5 Litre 5 I5 turbo Focus for the same price it's a bit of a no brainer as to what is going to get more sales.
I actually quite like the new Camaro. Was not a fan of the last one but likes the classics but this new one could be something a little different. Seen a few vids of it at the "ring" as well and it does not look half bad. Will be giving one a test drive when they come out anyway. Think they are launching it under the chevroet brand here too. Since Vauxhall have the VXR8. Will make a change as currently the Chevrolet cars are all rebranded daewoo's...pieces of crap they are as well.

my friend is goign to get the maro when it comes out (so he says).. hes going to be waiting a while im sure.. there is most likely a waiting list for it.. once he gets his imma spank the crap outta him
but i think the new maros will be noticeable worse in performance as compared to any new sports car comiong out.. the 2010 GT will spank the 2010 maro im pretty sure (obviosuly i dont know the specs on the new stang yet) but the challenger will be a better performance car then the maro stock for stock from what i kno.. and the maro has less HP then the challenger and there about the same weight.. the maro will be quick no doubt.. but not as quick as anything coming out at that time in the muscle/sports car category
i kinda wish they did the firebird again instead of teh maro.. but w.elets see how long the maro stays alive for this time

I think those numbers are about right for the weight, look at the GTO, it's weights 100 lbs less than the camaro with IRS and simular HP,
the Camaro can not overcome Physics just because it's a Camaro !!!
