Actually, I'd take rdeor's blue '67 fastback /\ /\ /\
And its true about the sacrifices made back in the day for more performance. Hell, there's no better example of that than the '65 GT350's. I got a chance to see a mostly stock one run in person, and man.........that thing was crude, rude, and unapologetic..........I loved it.
There's a whole list of classic Stangs I'd dropkick an 08 Shelby to have in my driveway anyday of the week. It's just that the 68 Shelby...isn't one of them.

I drive the one in my sig as a daily driver now when the weather will let me. If I had to give it up for one of these two, it would be the '68 without question. I love the little foibles that come with the classics.

Daily Driver...2008 def. you have to have the premium sound system and the total package. The 2008 is a supercharged beast, dont get me wrong i love the 68, but value aside, the new Kr is 100% better, not to mention easier to find parts for

I'm kinda biased. I would pick one 68' over 10 of the 2008's. You see the 05-08 body styles all over the place, it's not really an ooh or an ah car anymore....just, oh there goes another one of those new super charged Mustangs. I'm sure in 68 and 69 it was like that for the 67-68 body style Mustangs. Like, oh there goes one of those over priced 68 Shelby's again....
I love them both though.

Hmmm…after reading the actual conditions, I recant my original post. My car leaks in the rain, 11” clutch, my mirrors, steering and brakes suck, and while it is my daily driver….it has left me stranded more times that I can count. I can’t hear my 8-track player over my loud H-pipe barely even a muffler exhaust. I carry a tool box in my trunk and a screw driver in my pocket just to ensure that I can get from point A to point B.
I guess with a 2008 I could fill up my trunk with car wax, tire armour all and towels.
For my daily driver (there is a heater box in the 2008’s right?) I would pick the 2008…..

The '08, with hesitation that most of you won't be expecting.
I'm a hard cornering/handling/autocross enthusiast first, last, and just about everywhere in between. I'm not afraid to get involved in chassis mods for that purpose, but the rules of this little game won't let me do that with either car. So I choose the car with the better chassis and the better OE cornering performance. The bottom line is "fun to drive" for each of us voters, and that's my definition.
It's not just the car either. While looking at the whole packages do not underestimate the value of today's 18" wheel/tire package compared with the tires and wheels that were used 40 years ago or the equivalent tire sizes today. There never was anything in 14"/15" street rubber as good as today's OE 18", and most (maybe all) of the better 14"/15" tires are no longer available in adequate sizes anyway. IOW, you'd be driving on tire technology aimed at long tread life instead of grip, and tire store loss leader specials aimed at customers who only want round/black/hold air/CHEAP (not necessarily in that order). No winners in that bunch. Been there. Still am, sort of, just with a different semi-old car.
I will assume that there was an option for either factory or dealer installed A/C (I now need this for personal reasons involving heat stress susceptibility), so I'm not going to count A/C as a strike against the '68.
About that hesitation I mentioned. As popular as forced induction seems to be with most of the S197 owners here, it just doesn't do much for me at all. But I think that FI would be an easier pill to keep swallowing on a daily basis than the handling deficiencies of the '68 would be.
There ya have it.
