Broken or Non-functioning Things On Your Car You Put Up With
Broken or Non-functioning Things On Your Car You Put Up With
Over time, some things on a car break or stop working. You either get them fixed or you live with them. What things are broken or not working on your car that you put up with ?
On my car (2003 VY Berlina wagon):
- The beautifully SAAB designed but structurally suspect cup holders fitted to VY and VZ Berlinas and Calais are broken but still work if you are careful. I got one fixed under warranty but they are too expensive to fix now.
- The automatic radio aerial no longer retracts. The motor still works but the aerial doesn’t go up or down. Again, too expensive to fix and I like the sound of static…
- In the cargo area, the door to the cover where the trailer light lead is hidden has broken hinges. It still locks in place but falls off when open. Doesn’t cause any issue so I haven’t bothered.
- The rear window washer jet is loose and cannot be tightened. I got them to tighten it at every service while it was under warranty but don’t bother now. Only causes a problem if I get too excited with the water hose when I am washing it, then I get a wet cargo area.
Not a bad list for a 7 year old car with 130K miles on the clock.
What do you put up with in your car and why have you not fixed it ?

Ratfink - Decrease the size of your signiture picture.
I have a small area of body damage on my right rear quarter panel. This was caused by drunken college students (I work at a University) jumping in front of my car, forcing me to either hit them or scrape a concrete pillar. I sometimes rethink my choice in my head and wonder...
I got all of the paint off, now there is just a medium dent (4in long, 1in high) where one piece of the quarter panel bent against the bumper. Hardly noticable. NOT worth $1300 repair quote from 3 different shops. A-holes.
