Default Looking at getting a 'Stang... what to get?

Hey, new here and have a question. Right now I'm stationed in S. Korea, and I've been looking at getting a Mustang when I get back to the states, just need a little advice. I'm looking for something powerful, obviously, but with good street manners and a good price. I love the look of the new Mustangs and I'm looking for a V-8 and possibly a convertible, but the new GT is out of my price range. How much power can i squeeze out of the V6 model? Or, should I go for a 2000-2004 GT model? Like I said, I'm looking for somethign with good power and price. I've mainly worked on Jeeps in the past and 4x4'd, so this'll be my first "real" car I'll be working on, and a lot of work will go into it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, it depends on what your price range is, and how powerful of a car that you want. I payed 14K for my 03 gt with 30k miles on it. I love the car. It drives great, could use a little more power, but all in all i love it. I would recommend getting a 99-04 gt. If you are not wanting to spend that much money, then you could get a 88-93 5.0 fox bodied mustang. A really nice fox will cost around 5grand, for a pretty nice one. IF you want the ultimate mustang, get an 03 or an 04 cobra, those run around 26 grand, but if your like me you cant afford it! Welcome to the forums! If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Welcome to the forums!

My best advice would be to read about all the models and what some of the members here have done with their cars to see what is right for you and your price range. Hopefully you'll find something perfect for ya.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm looking for something around 20k, preferably on the lower side. For that, I've seen some V6 05 mustangs, and some V8 00-04's. I like the look of the new ones, but then, would it be worth it to work on a V6 and/or swap in a V8 down the line? Or just get a V8 right off the bat?

This decision isn't all about the v6 or the v8. You really have to look at which model you like the looks of more too. I personally am a big fan of the '05 and '06 model. whichever you decide, you have to remember that you with the help from the forum and the right mods, you can get all the power you want and more out of an '05 v6 should you go with that. The decision is yours but like others said, look at the pics on the forum of others members cars and just make your decision when your good and ready. No matter what you choose, you made the right decision by getting a mustang. Welcome aboard.

From what I can see, the S197 ('05+) V6s are 'about' as quick as my SN-95 ('98) was (210hp vs 225hp). The New Edge ('99 - '04) V8 models were a little more powerful (260hp) if remember rightly, so a few well-chosen mods would certainly get you closer to the New Edge performance, if not the exhaust note. But, again, that's something you can work on as and when time/funds become available. If you really like the looks of the S197 (and it sounds to me like you do) then perhaps the S197 V6 gives you the best of both worlds. Anyway, that's just my $0.02.

It depends on what you personally want. An 03-04 cobra like said before is around 26 grand maybe cheaper depending on the deal you get. Getting an 03-04 cobra vs an 05 v6 you're definetly going to notice a huge power difference stock vs stock. The 03-04 cobra engines are also built, so you do not have to worry about breaking anything, no matter how much power you put in it (to a certain point). If you want a ton of power out of a v6 you will get some, but its not going to come close to a 4 valve V8 cobra engine. Go with the 03-04 cobra. Plus they look better in my opinion. Welcome aboard!

i would find a mach if you could

or if you really want, get a V-6, dont do the V-8 swap but drop in twin turbos and you can kill GTs all day in a little 6er
