69 mach 1 questions
About a year ago I purchased a 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ, R code with drag pack, 4.30 traction lock rear end, close ratio top loader 4 speed. It has been in a garage undriven since 1982.
Unfortunately the the owner took out the original 428 block and replaced it with
a 1971 427 side oiler service block. He did reuse the heads and crankshaft.
My questions are: Should I replace the 427 block with another 428? What would add the most value to the car?

Welcome to the forum.
I'm no professional appraiser, but I've always heard the more original a car is, the more it's worth. But I'm sure you already know that. Tough call on what to do, but to get a little more advice, I'd start another thread in the Classics Tech section. They may know more on the subject. Good luck
And if you have time, post up some pic's of this beast. Nothing like the older stangs.

Nice Mach, love the black and red!
While a number matching engine is the best case for value, a non numbers matching engine isn't the big issue it once was to most collectors. That the engine is correct for a drag pack SCJ, however is more important. There were several changes made to the 428 for drag pack cars to help it withstand high rpms. As far as value is concerned a correct date coded 428 with the correct SCJ parts (rods, crank, etc) would help the most. You can see the differences in this link.

Thanks guys and really appreciate the link about the motor "CJ vs SCJ". Lot of great info.
I learn something new everyday.
Leaning towards going back to original for sure. Hoping to have it in the garage soon. Can't wait to get it back on the road where it needs to be.
