OIL, OIL, OIL Questions??
I have a 2009 GT. It is about to roll 29,000 miles. I drive almost all highway miles about 75 per day 5 days a week. I have had the car since it had 16,000 on it. I have been using Fully synthetic Mobil-1 since it have had it. My question is has anyone else experienced the car using oil? I have had to add about a half a quart twice in 4000 miles. I am going to monitor it and see how long it takes to use oil again. I am also going to see if it will use any more oil than a half of quart and track that as well. Any input from you guys would be great. This is my thrid stang and I dont remember them burning or using oil this early in its life.

Oil usage is rare to begin with but at that mileage I have to say it has nothing to do with the brand of oil. Are you sure you don't have a leak? Any evidence of oil in the coolant? Are you checking it with the oil at about the same temperature and the car level each time? Some folks have problems checking oil properly.

Yeah, 75mi per day 5 days per wk is a TON of miles. I might be normal for that kind of condition to actually go through oil out of your engine.
If in doubt, take it to a shop and try to get a professional opinion.

Besides, it shouldn't matter HOW much you drive, you shouldn't be using oil, let alone on an engine with only 29k on it.

No offense but 75 miles/day is fairly normal. That amounts to 18,000 mi/year for work. I don't think I've put less than 24,000 miles/year on a car for just work in over 20 years.

As for the 75mi per day, I know there are people who do it, or even put 100mi per day for work commute, I didn't know there are that many people who do it.

OP
1. More than likely, your oil is being sucked in your intake via the PCV system. Some oils vaporize easier than others, and a heavier oil will not do it as easily. I bet if you were to change to a top tier 5W-30, your consumption would decrease, if not cease.
2. Mobil 1 is NOT a full synthetic, it's a group III hydrocracked "highly refined petroleum". It has a higher NOACK Volatilty (burn off) rate than a group IV/V true synthetic will.
Want my advice? Try one of the oils listed below and I bet your problem will be solved.
Royal Purple 5W-30
Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30
Amsoil 0W-30 or 5W-30
Red Line 5W-30
All are group IV base stocks, although still in limbo about PP. Still don't have proof either way, but it's a great oil.
and before someone posts, "this engine requires 5W-20", read the link below first.
