Default What's the right oil for my Cobra?

Hello, I have a 1998 Mustang Cobra with the 4.6. The Manufacturer says to use 5w30. I've been using AMSOIL 5w30 and I've noticed that it's using about 3/4 of a quart every month or so. I guess it could be just an older engine and it could be burning it, I do have 95,000 miles on it. However, I live in the desert and during the summer it gets to 110 outside quite often. I wonder if I should be using a thicker oil, at least during the summer months. I don't want to harm the engine in any way, but I wonder if a 10w30 or a 10w40 would be better.

As far as you burning oil check your pcv valve. The oil your using now is fine, as long as your cooling system is in good working order, the outside temps shouldn't effect your motor really.

Are you using Amsoil Signature Series, XL, or OE 5W-30? Follow Dreamer's advice and check the PCV valve first.

I'm using the XL Series 5Wx30. I think I replaced the PCV Valve last year. How do I check it, should I just replace it again?

Thanks.

Here is what I want you to try. Switch to Amsoil ATM 10W-30

It has much lower NOACK (50% less burn off) and more shear stable. I bet it will slow your oil consumption way down.
