Glass packs
I don't think anybody actually uses glasspacks now. It's so 1980's.
Instead of the normal steel mesh (or whatever goes on inside an oem-type muffler) they pack it with fiberglass to muffle the sound. They're a bit louder. The drawback is that they tend to blow the stuffing out and you're supposed to repack them.
Personally I'd go with Flowmasters. They've got little chambers of air that the sound bounces around in - cancelling itself out a little - to reduce the noise. That and they're nearly indestructible. I've got a pair of 40 series on my 5.0 and a single 30 series on my Ram. I had a 70 series big block/SUV on my 99 Grand Cherokee - the muffler shop wouldn't put a 30 series on because they insisted that it would be too loud and I'd hate it. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley3.gif border="0"> Fools.

aren't they less restrictive though? i actually think they sound pretty cool, and i know i've heard a lot of them because i liveby a highly...uhh...hispanically influenced(?) town where fart canned hondas and glasspacked chevy 1500's are a dime a dozen. actually to explain it, they're i guess you call it "sister cities", i live in one and the other sister is the "influenced" one, and they all have them there.

I agree with your answer completely. I've had my flowmaster's and catback for 8yrs and never had a problem. I wouldn't run anything else.
