A lesson in drag/street lingo (from the old guy....me...LOL)...

back in the day when BLOWERS became the hot item protruding from the hoods of muscle cars that were street driven, the technical word was "Supercharger", but no one ever said it, cause BLOWER just sounded kick-***. BLOWER just came from it blowing air into the engine, I've also heard of vaccum cleaner, power-topper, winder (pronounced wind er), etc... ---when the centrifugalsor sleeper types came out to distiguish the two when people said "blower" they meant the roots type that sits on top of the Engine, and when they said "Supercharger" they meant the side mounted type....

but a flippin supercharger is just a supercharger whether it sits on top, side or whereever else someone can invent.....it forces the air from the OUTSIDEinto the engine. (turbos of course are a diff.)

Ok, here comes the arguement from the crowd. Technically a supercharger is not defined as either a blower or a turbo. It can be either. Here is the dictionary description for it.

supercharge verb [T]
to make an engine more powerful by forcing in more air and fuel than usual

supercharger noun [C]
a device which produces more power in an engine by forcing more air into the part of it in which fuel burns

So you can describe a turbocharger as a device that supercharges an engine. Just that turbo defines it as exhaust driven. Same can be true about the term blower. A turbo blows air right?

Call em what you want. They all compress air.

My dad calls it a blower I call it a supercharger. It must be a age thing who knows though. I think it started with roots blowers back in the day.
