Headers on a 4.6
I have a 1999gt and i want to get headers. I have lift and it seems close to impossible to do them, and ive heard its like a 15 hour job. Can someone who's done this please shed some light on this for me in what you have to do basically

well for me they were turbo headers.. but i was replacing the k member so what i did was drop all the suspension and that way they were easy to get to. if i were just replacing i would unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up a few inches and go from there. they are a b***h and a half but the factory ones are so restrictive.

i decided to get my headers done at a shop ( i have an 02 GT). they said they would have to remove the transmision and lift the engine in order to get toput them in. its a pain in the *** from what i hear.

Dropping the K is the easiest way. It can be done by just jacking up the engine, but be prepared to be out of a car for a week or so either way if your doing it yourself. I've seen stangs out for 2 weeks on shortys. HAHA Not worth it for 5hp IMO. Your sock manifolds will flow as much as your stock heads will put out. Once you get ported heads and cams is when headers really are worth the hassle.

Trans doesn't have to be removed. We did it in 8 hours. dropping the kmember is the easiest way to do it. I did it the hard way. we did have to jack the engine up2 inches on the left and 6 incheds on the right. very tight fit, not to mention it was a pain in the *** to put the header bolts in. but it can be done. if you don't have patience , have a shop do it. Be prepared to spend $400-600 for install.
