Default h vs. x

Ok, I know most of you are going to refer me to listening to sound clips and such, but the thing is on youtube the sound quality is so ****ty there is no real way to tell sound differences between x and h pipes. So I invite those of you whom have had experience with both to go into great detail on how they vary in sound. Who knows, maybe if you guys put a little effort into this it could be pinned?

Go with the h for the deeper rumble, american v8 sound. X's will be louder and a little raspy. Also varies, i'm assuming your going offroad?

H pipe is throaty and more muscle car sounding.
X pipe is a little smoother flowing so the tone is s little different.
The H pipe will equalize well, but doesnt really help respiration of the engine.
The X pipe helps respiration but you give a little "sound" quality.
I have a flowmaster with no cats and H pipe setup.
Installing a PYPES "x" with cats setup, my dyno guy says that my exhaust was the restriction point.
Hope it helps a little!

imo, H sounds better at idle, X sounds better at cruise/wot

I have an H on my '89 GT & I like it, but if I were to go back & do it again I'd choose an X.

That sounds like a dumped system like the mac pro dumps, but they're made to hook up to the midpipe still. That might be a system like that with a custom midpipe section.

I went with the H pipe. Better sound IMO.

I used to have a catted x pipe with 2 chamber flowmasters on my 93 GT and it sound weird to me. Everyone else said it had a good sound. My flows rotted and I got a Mac off road H pipe and cat back. Love the sound. If I redo my exhaust I'll give an off road X pipe a try

If you're using a chambered muffler go with an H. If a straight through style Magnaflow or SLP go with an x. But it is style what you want to hear while driving. Your mustang get what you like whether it goes against the norm or not..
