Hot Tail

Hot Tail
i installed a magnaflow catback recently and i let those beautiful chrome tailpipes stick out a few inches just to show them off. I noticed today that the tips of them are starting to become discolored from heat(similar to pipes on a motorcycle). Is this normal?? i really dont want them to get totally discolored!!

Thats why you dont run tailpipes .
J/K! I bet they look great, however, discoloration of the tail's shouldnt happen. I would contact Magnaflow and see what they had to say.

RE: Hot Tail
if you are running with an o/r midpipe i would say taht it is normal, and perhaps it still happens frequetnly with catted cars as well,, its not the cleanest air in the world coming out of your pipes, so a bit of discolorization should be expected
____
i have Stinger Tips... 4"wide and rolled so you can see the stainless steel around the surface of the tip itself
and im running an o/r H,,
i get alot of brownish buildup on the innerlip of the pipe, as well as the round surface that faces outward... all i have to do is wet it down with some soap... aka...wash the car.... and then either take a rag and scrub on it till it comes off, or i get brave and scrape it with my fingernail... though i dont recommend that one cause its an inconvienance to have to scrub it out from undre your nails..
i know a couple other people on here have said that theirs do the same thing,, good luck cleaning it

RE: Hot Tail
its not dirt though, its from the heat... its hardly noticeable right now. ill wait a bit and see if it gets worse. i am running an o/r H so i can see how all that heat would get transferred right out the back instead of just in the cats.

RE: Hot Tail
i know its not dirt... dirt isnt baked onto metal and unremovable by water alone
its just buildup from the air passing through, as well as some of the 'debris' i dont know what else to call it, that makes it through without cats..
mine just scrapes off, try it, im sure its the same thing,
