Default Max HP for a 4.6 32v engine

I was just wondering if a 4.6 32 valve(cobra) would be able to handle more horsepower stock than a regular 4.6. Thanks, Robert

They are basically the same up untill 2003/2004. The 96-01 4V engines all are basically the same. The 1996 and 1998 4V Cobra made 305 hp and 300 ftlbs of tq. The 1999 4V Cobra made 316 hp and 316 tq and the 2001 made 320 hp and 317 tq. All four had the same compression ratio of 9.9:1.

The max power you can SAFELY pull out of one is probably about 475 hp with a really good tune is my guess.

The 2003/2004 Cobra will handle up to 800+ hp because of the bullet proff engine built by SVT.

I believe the Mach 1 4V was pretty much a complete re-design of the NA 4V.

The heads on a Mach are Navigator heads and are completly different from Cobra heads.

The cobra motors are most definatly stronger being they have 40 crank bolts verses I think 16 on a 2v motor. The worst part of the cobra motor is the rods. In the new MM&FF there is an article on this subject and it states that the weakness is worst when the rods are pulling the pistons back down from the compression stroke, that is when the most pressure is put on them but they say that the motors are alot stronger than anyone claims they are and can handle 500hp easy with a good tune like Jdan said but if its not tuned right things can get ugly very quick. So the answer to your question is yes they can handle more power

800 hp? Ha, how many 800 hp cars with a STOCK engine are there to know if that is even true??? Anyway, the max hp for the 03/04 4v is probably 500-600 rwhp. After that, the thing is going to fall apart, and at that level it might even fall apart. The internals in it from Ford are forged, so it's definitely a very strong motor, but not 800 hp strong. As far as the 96-01 are concerned, I really have no idea. I haven't seen too many of them pushing high hp numbers, though I'm sure they are out there.

i think its alot higher than that. Ive seen plenty of members on here and local SVTOA guys with 500rwhp no problem.
