Default 17x9 whats possible

I used the search button but couldn't find an answer. I need to know what size tires I can fit on a 17x9 rim. Can I fit 275s without any problems? And what height can I go too? I want to keep close to stock height as well. I found that on a 17x8 rim a 255/50/17 is no problem correct? I am wanting to stagger so what would be perfect with 17x8 fronts and 17x9 rears.

Thanks

275's will fit just fine. I ran a set of 17x9 corbra R +24mm offset sn95 wheels on my 05 for four years with 275/50 Nitto 455's also lowered in the rear with Roush springs 1". Never any issues with rubbing or clearance front or rear. And with the +24mm offset the wheels were out about a 1/4 in past the fender wells.
S197's will take almost any wheel and tire combo. Right now I' running 18X9 and 18x10 deep dish with 255/45's in the front and 295/45's in the rear. 255's on an 8'' rim will fit just fine.

Check the tire specs on websites such as tirerack. They list the tire manufacturer's recommended wheel size for a given tire in addition to the tire's OD. If you don't have a tuner, then stay as close as possible to the stock tire OD. If you DO have a tuner, then you can adjust for the tire revs/mile.

I run 275/40/17 rear with a roush rear springs and 245/40/17 front and am happy with the combo. I had 355 gears but with the smaller tire I figured it was about 373 gears. My speedometer is off by about 4mph. A tuner will adjust that out, For now I can figure out the difference. I like the lower gears and the lower stance of the car!
