Default Witch car would go with?

I posted this in the 5.0 Tech section as well.

Looking at my 3rd Stang, can't decide witch.

Just sold my Harley, she will be missed. Now looking at my first love again, Mustangs.

A 12 GT with Brembo Brakes, manual, spoiler delete black on black or a 07 or 08 GT500?

Either of the cars will not be a daily driver but around town and to the strip for weekend fun. I can get cars close to the same price and love both. As far as mods go, I would start with the normal, exhaust, cold air intake, aluminum drive-shaft and slicks for the strip. Adding a supercharged or increasing the boost would happen in the future. Witch of these cars is more suited for these types of mods? Is the 5.4 in the 500 a better platform for adding more boost and drag racing at test and tune even with the extra weight? I love the 5.0 but the pistons are not forged and I hear problems with burning oil and number 8 cylinder... but then I have seen 11's from sticky tires exhaust and good drivers with the coyote.

All in all I would like some input from both sides to weigh the options?

I was in this dilemma as well.
We ended up going with the GT500.

We got one with only 3800 mi. for the same price as a new 5.0.

The GT500 is a MUCH better platform as far as to what the engine can take.
When you get to huge numbers people start comparing the GT500 and the 5.0 in terms of what can take that power as far as handling better.
But that is when you go into the big numbers.
You can always mod the GT500 suspension if you are worried about that.

Of course this could open a can of worms on debate on this forum as to
the suspension.

You would end up spending quite a bit more money on the 5.0 to add a supercharger etc. vs. just buying a GT500 with a supercharger already on it.
Not to mention the bigger 5.4L engine AND its ability to hold more power safely.
To answer your question. YES the GT500 IS better as far as adding more boost and power. It also handles more safely.
The 5.0 has not been out long enough to know just how long it will be able to take
boost, but with it's compression big boost is NOT good for it and can cause the engine to go KABOOM MUCH more easily than the GT500.

We went with the GT500 and are GLAD we did.
Plus... let me tell you something that is true whether owners admit it or not,
there is just SOMETHING about owning a Shelby GT500 that words can't
really explain hehe.

The 5.0 is a great car.
Nothing against it.
But I would not want to own one for putting big boost in it, ESPECIALLY if
I did not plan on going in to forge the engine etc.

There have been issues already with the 5.0 handling mods.
Even little mods. Dunno if you have heard about the #8 piston popping on some but they have... with only a CAI and tune. It is few and far in between but it still points out that the 5.0 has not been out long enough to determine long term mod reliability.
There are new 5.0's out there that are boosted that are doing well. Many of them.
But we don't know how long they will last. And they aren't running big boost if that is your game.

The 5.0's compression just makes it so it wont' handle big boost on it's own
without going in and forging the sucker etc.

Both great cars.
I'd definitely go with the GT500 though.
Some will disagree with me of course.

Thank you for the great detail. This has me leaning more on 500. Handling is not my main concern, straight line is what I really enjoy. Looking at black on black. Hopefully before the end of the year I can have this done.

Heck yeah BLACK ON BLACK!

NOTHING looks as mean on a Mustang as black!

Second choice would DEFINITELY be grabber orange!
Wish they still had that color but you can find one on a 07-09 GT500.

I vote for the GT500! But you would expect that I would! I agree with everything Blacksmoke said. I went with Sam Strano's suggestions for the suspension: Steeda HD upper strut mounts, Steeda Comp Springs and Koni Sports. I'm glad I did it that way, it lowered the front about 3/4" and the rear about 1.25" and it rides and handles considerably better. I don't think you will go wrong with the GT500 but I know a lot of people with very nice GT's! Just take your time and do a lot of looking. I have a friend here that just bought a 2012 Boss 302 and traded his 08 GT500 with 17k miles on it, I think you can come up with a deal on either if you take your time. Have fun deciding!

If you are going to track it, 5.0 - around town and strip get the GT 500. The power is so much fun!

GT500. Mine is for sale at Crown Ford in Fayetteville, NC for a decent deal with 632rwhp 630tq. I had it since brand new. New clutch, tires and other stuff. Miss it bad
