Default Quick question about 96-98 Cobra Motors??

Well i am thinking about selling my yellow 88 beast and going with a 96-98 cobra, my question is,, Is the motor for the cobra the same engine that is in the Lincoln Marks of the same year,, at least the long block,, i am sure some sensor differences are there,,but my point is i am a Mechanic and i know i would be money ahead to buy a distessed cobra and put a motor in it and i know a guy with about 10 marks in the field and most still have motors.

I am going with a 97 cobra too. I have a 96 gt as a daily thats paid off, but I am about to finance a little bit to get this 97 cobra to play with kinda backwards but, anyway IMO I wouldn't buy a cobra and plan on putting an engine in it because that's a waste. I would only improve to stock engines performance. If you are gonna buy it and put an engine in it esp. a stock one, you are just paying for the name. If you just want that body style then it would be faster and cheaper to find a 94-95 GT since it is setup for the 302 and build one of those. That way you don't have to swap computers and all that extra crap plus its cheaper.

281 4v 305hp stock. Exhaust, tune, every bolt-on =close to 300 rwhp

302 5.0 225hp stock. Heads, cam, intake, tune=over 300rwhp, plus more with bolt-ons, exhaust, etc.
And it would be cheaper to do those 4 things to a 5.0 than buying the exhaust and some bolt-ons for the 281($1000 just for complete exhaust)

Cobra body=$4000
GT=$1500-$2000

well the point is not to buy a cobra and then really go ***** out ruining the car with mods,, the question was is the mark the same motor sans intake manifold so i could buy one for cheap and then install a stock like motor in it, i am about to a point were modifying the crap out of my cars is really begining to be not worth it. i have modified my 88 to the point where the suspension is too stiff it is too loud and just all together over done, i have to spend a considerable amount of time in this thing everyday to comute and a 305 hp cobra would be daily drivable and i wouldn't have to ruin it to have fun with it,, and that is not to say some nice tone muffers and a cold air intake wouldn't be on my list but i am not going to over do it

Well, I know that the intake and up is different, and more than likely other odds and ends. You probally would be find if the cobra you buy has an engine in it so you will have the bits and pieces that you need to make it work.
