Aftermarket cams on S281 SC

Depends on what you want out of your car. Performance? Just the sound of the cam? What kind of goals do you have? I'm absolutely in love with my cammed SC car, but that doesn't mean you will be, too.

For me, it's going to be more about the sound than anything else. Not sure which cams to go with though. Suggestions are appreciated. I'm planning on doing the install myself which brings me to another question. Is the car drivable directly after the swap? Can I drive like 40 miles to the tuner alright?

I went with FRPP Hot Rod Cams, and I absolutely LOVE the sound! I did the install myself. Make sure you get the 2 tools that the manual recommends. It'll make your life so much easier. As for driving the car 40 miles, I am unsure, as I had a tune ready to go as soon as I did them.

Car should be drivable to the tuner, just stay out of boost and be nice to it. Brenspeed makes some cams designed for our S/C engines, but I am unsure of how they sound. They are supposed to be coming out with some Detroit Rocker cams for s/c gears, that will give you the nice lopey idle, but be designed for boosted engines.

I will be completely honest. I paid $200 for the email tune, and I hate it. I am running rich to the point of fouling plugs. I know they tried to make it as safe as possible, but I need to get to a dyno and get a REAL tune. I am in WV and my options are very limited, without a lot of travelling. I have a place that is lined up to tune my car, but I have to wait for the tuner to travel to the shop from Ohio. I am going to have Don Lasota tune it. My advice, don't get an email tune. Get to a dyno, and save yourself the money.

Iwin, can you send me a clip of the sound of those cams. I was under the impression you couldnt get a nice sound with the supercharged models. I am very interested in cams if thats not the case. Here is my email to make it easier- char259@msn.com
