Another gt40 thread
Hey guys I'm pretty new so sorry if this post isn't in the right spot or whatever. I have looked over many other threads and none of them really answer my specific question so I'll ask it here. Anyway, I recently put gt40 heads/intake and e303 cam into my 93 mustang. Me being not made of money I ported the heads myself, gasket matched pretty much, I'm sure it wasn't the greatest port job ever but I still spent at least a week on it. Had some issues with idle surge but mostly fixed that (still doesn't like cold starts) and it has been running good. before doing this a lot of people said they got to the 270 rwhp range with the gt40 setup. I definitely did notice a difference in the top end, and it pulls harder, but I do not think it's near 270 HP. I haven't dynoed since I'm a broke teenager but I would say it's around 230-245 HP. I am still running stock injectors and maf. I have other mods like cai, shorty headers, explorer TB (although stock egr spacer so it is kinda pointless) . Could I get to 270 rwhp with this setup? Would a tune help? Bigger injectors? Maf? Thanks.

Yes, I'd think you can get to 270 with the GT 40's. All the smaller mods you listed will help, except the bigger injectors aren't needed yet. Think of the motor as just a big air pump. The easier it is to take air in and get air out will increase performance. Larger MAF, throttle body, a good exhaust system all will help some. But a better cam and roller rockers would help more.
You said your on a tight budget so I'd start digging through old GT 40 build threads on all the forums, and take note of mods list. Start camping out on Craigslist/Facebook marketplace and pick up parts on the cheap. Sounds like your good with a wrench so install shouldn't be a problem.
But eventually you'll need a dyno or a 1/4 mile dragstrip to get an accurate HP number. Are there any tracks around you that you can make a couple passes on for before and after numbers? That's what makes this fun lol.

Mustang 101.
Gears Gears Gears!!!
Rear gears will make you feel like you have 300 hp depending on what transmission you have manual or auto? If your Auto then just jump right up to some 4.10 gears, if your manual trans 3.73 will do the trick.
If you car is an auto trans then seriously think about a manual swap. The autos in those cars are sluggish to begin with.
