Default How about timing?

Went to Raceway Park E-Town NJ in late May to test my new combo. The LSC went a 14.19 w/a 2,12 60ft. Trap speed was 97.5. Initial timing was 14 deg. Got home and checked total which i found was only 22 deg total. Swapped in an MSD didt, no change. Swapped in another used stock dist, no change. Swapped out my computer for a Mustang DA1 and the car picked up 10 degs. Set the base at 18 for a 28 total, bumped up the fuel press a couple more lbs to 39 and headed down to MM&FF Fords At Englishtown last weekend. The weather sucked. Hazy Hot and Humid. Everybody that was racing was 2/3 tenths off. The LSC went 14.21 w/a 2.16 60ft. The 60ft slowed a bit but the trap went to 98.2. I think the 18 iniitial is hurting the bottom end but i need more total. Am looking for 34 but can't figure out how. I am looking at a TWEECER tunerso i can fine tune the combo. Anyone using or have experience with a TWEECER or a timing issue?

There is no way you can check/tune total advance in an EEC system "a la" centrifugal or vacuum distributor style. The "total" advance you see at the balancer revving in neutral, is not the same spark advance the system goes through under load. You need to access the spark advance tables vs RPM and load using a tuner device like the TwEECer.... OR .... set initial to total advance and not install the SPOUT plug.... which is an old school EFI tuning alternative.

i ran sd for long time in another car an 87gt probably 97-04. in 07 i picked up my 88gt and its still sd it has gt40 intake, brodixst.50 heads, 1.7's, full exhaust, powerdyne making 11psi, aodcar, probably 400-425rwhp. it goes 8.0@90 on street tires 2.0 60'. my old 87 had alot healthier motor it was 11.5:1 it went 8.0@86 on the motor w/1.64 60' on etstreets both 5spd and c4. street tires on spray it went 7.5@91 on 1.75 60'. obvously all 1/8 times but high 12's to high 11's 1/4

at wot the computer adds 16-17deg advance, my old 87 i ran 20-22 base depending on weather. my 88 has a blower so i only run 14-16 w/retard knob about 1.25-1.5

i would LOVE to know how you guys are doing this i need details: what computers are you guys running? how much timing, everything. I recently rebuilt my 87' 5.0HO, and its great, but i put 1970 D00E-C 351W ported and polished heads on with 60.4cc combustition chambers, and although it runs like a bat outta h*** it idles like $hit, and went from getting 28mpg to only 15mpg, i am running a DA1 thunderbird computer i think, because my HO computer is apparantly fried because it had a sucky idle, and only got 10mpg, it was pathetic. somone please help, because my SD setup is starting to really PI$$ me off, and im bout to trash it and put on a Holley TBI setup with a weiand 174 roots supercharger, but not for a while because of money issues, can anyone help? You guys are my last resort.

try bumping the idle up a little bit. if your throttle body doesnt have a hole in the blade, drill as tiny hole in it, make sure vacuum is good
