Default ? on Speed Density!!!

I have a 1988 LX, ALL STOCK. Everytime I give my car gas, you can hear a loud suction of air being pulled in. I figure thats the stock air intake. I freaking hate it and it takes sound away from the exhaust. My ? is, What can I buy to replace that? My car being speed density, I want to stay away from switching over to mass air flow. Appricate any feedback.

Thanks agian, Joe!

You shouldn't be able to hear it as well as you describe to. As a matter of fact you should barely hear the intake at all. I'd venture to say you have a large vacuum leak or an exhaust leak, or other problems such as low valve lift causing an increased suction in the intake system due to a restriction.

If he had speed density and had a major vacuum leak it should run as if it had and aftermarket cam when idling.

Actually.. I take that back.. Its either that or a high idle. I can't remember which one because my car did both, but one was because the BAP sensor was unplugged.

But with the vacuum leak, if its big, its audible.

if it bothers you that much, find a stock intake silencer, yours is probably missing because its the first free mod everyone does. put a want add on the corral, someone will probably give it to you for the cost of shipping!
