Tuning MAF/Speed Density...
Ok, I am getting an 86 GT. It has speed density. For some reason, I'm really feeling the speed density set-up. I mean I really like it. Now I've never owned a speed density vehicle before yet I am aware of all the complaints people have against it. My question is this: what makes MAF better than speed density? I know how each operates. I just want to know why people feel that MAF is better. I have heard that if you do a HCI combo on a Speed Density car the engine won't run correctly and you'd have to get it tuned. But if you did the same combo on a MAF car you would also have to get it tuned right? Both systems require tuning for modifications so why is MAF the preferred system?

Unless you add a huge cam and hogged out heads, the mass-air ECM will adapt pretty well without tuning. Most speed density cars have idle issues just adding a small cam. On the other hand, if you have two stock cars, one speed density and the other mass air, the speed density car is usually more responsive.

I agree whole heartly with mjr46.You have to sometimes agjust the idling and timing but i've had great sucess with my current set up.The best part is for ever I heard you can't put a cam in a speed density car without converting it to mass air .WRONG!!!! I' m planning on putting up a small video of my car idling on you tube soon.
