It was probably a GS-T. Some kids with those think it's cool to vent their BOV to the atmosphere rather than venting it back into the intake like it was designed. They think it's cool because you can really hear the BOV between shifts, but most don't know or just don't care that it actually hurts performance, because it screws up the A/F ratio, because the computer is designed to accomodate for the added charge of air into the intake. Just another example of how some people prefer to sound or look fast rather than to really be fast. Personally, I'd rather be able to back it up.
