Default 1st time to the track this year... gonna be a learning curve

Well, went racing today with the VMP TVS. I have changed a LOT on my car since the last time at the track (previous best in the 1/8th was a 7.23 @ 101.50 w/ 1.64 60ft in appx. 800DA).

I added 160 rwhp with the VMP TVS, plus changed tire sizes and rear suspension. Running a 275/60/15 M&H for the first time today, and I will have to learn launching with this tall of a tire and 3.73 gear. My 60ft. times were not very good today at all, but it wasn't the tires fault... The DA was 2400 and the track was not the best I have seen it.

Anyway, 1st shakedown pass just running it through the gears went a lackluster 7.42@100.50 w/1.83 60ft. After getting it back to the pits and checking everything out, I headed back to staging and lined up for the second pass.

Pass#2 - Car bogged off the line because I wasnt launching with enough RPMs, so the 60ft was only 1.78... running it up to redline and NOT powershifting the clutch felt a little spongy on the 2-3 shift, but it charged through the traps with a so-so 7.28 ET, but managed a trap speed of 103.67 mph.

Pass #3 - After a nice long cool down I decided to load the aggressive tune and go for broke.... the results..... IT BROKE. Luckily only the fuse that runs the fuel pump driver module, but it happened on the 2-3 powershift. Talk about a moment of uncertainty! At first I thought transmission, but didn't hear any carnage, then I thought engine but looked in the rear view mirror and didn't see any parts laying anywhere. I pulled off the return road and checked the DTCs and it showed me exactly what was wrong. Went a best of 1.72 60ft on that pass, and the way it was pulling I have no doubt it was a high 6sec pass at 105-106 mph, but a .25 cent fuse ruined the party.

Pass #4 - Car was hot, IAT2 temps were high, so loaded the conservative tune back in and was rewarded with a 7.29 @ 104.

All in all, had fun but figured out quickly I will have to relearn driving my car with the new combo.

Heres a video of the first pass and the "fuse" pass.

Looks like you had a good time, good luck in search of the 6 sec pass. The car defiantly capable of it. Your car is looking good too!

Thanks man. I had a blast, just going to have to get used to driving it with the taller tires. Overall I was pleased because it was .15 tenths slower on 60ft and still ran equal to my previous best ET. If I could have just managed another 1.64 60ft I think it would have gone 6's pretty easy. Of course, with the suspension and tires it "should" run mid 1.5 60fts.... guess I'm going to have to work on the driver mod again!

Thanks, I would like to see the 1/4 stats too. Once I get it launching the way it should be I would hope to be in the 10.50 range and trap in the neighborhood of 134-135mph. Thats what I hate about 1/8th mile, by the time it starts to actually pull in 3rd gear the run is over. Definately going to travle to some 1/4mile tracks later this year.

Some times it's just the track. Yesterday I launched the car hard with a great heat up. It should have pulled a low 1.8 60' but the track wasn't there, spun through 1st and the best it could do was 2.1.

Nice vids and times. It does look like you have some left on the launch with the new set up. I love the whine. That sick feeling on the 2-3 fail can't have been fun, yet, it's nice that it was something so simple.

Thanks.. to be honest I don't really look at the MPH, just watch the tach and the mirrors. I try to keep it around 4500rpm's in second until I see decent smoke and then flip the switch off and let the car pull itself out of the box.

Thanks man. It's all relative I guess. I watched a lot of cars with less power go half a second faster, so I guess I'm anxious to get to the full potential.

Yeah, the funny part of the video was watching my helmet go back and forth and the muffled sound of curse words coming from under the visor when I was popping the hood on the return road. Thank goodness for video editing!!

Steve - MPH is much more important then rpm - wheel speed = heat

4500 in 2nd with 3.73s and 28" = about 55-56 mph - so you're ok - but could use a bit more MPH
