Default New Tires & Tune = New Trophy... Pro Street Winner

This has been a long time coming. I have been trying to slow my car down from lower 12s to compete in the Pro Street 12.90 bracket for the last two years. I spoke to several major FI tuners whom said they would not or it couldn't be done tune wise. Except for Brenspeed, they said no problem. They sent me a fast DD tune and a slower version of that tune. They also walked me through how to adjust the timing to dial it in. Two months ago in September I was ready and then there was a massive power failure at the track after qualifying so racing was cancelled. Last month October I was the #1 qualifier with a 12.91 then got a flat tire but managed to finish in 3rd place on street tires! Last night with my new MT ET Street II 295/45/17's mount on some American Muscle Black Bullitts I was ready to go. Qualified with a 12.89 ( so close ) but won all the rounds pushing out a nice Foxbody for the win. New tires stick just as good as my previous bias ply ET Streets.

I know some of you wont understand slowing the car down but bracket racing is what it is. You gotta dial your car in, get near perfect reaction times and run that number. The next bracket available to me is 11.90 and frankly I am not ready to beat on the car that much since I run the car down the strip 75+ runs each year.

Felt good to wake a winner this morning.......LOL......gotta nice sized trophy and $200 for my efforts and managed to finish the year in 3rd place in points for the Pro Street Class. I gotta say I am digging the look of these new DRs. Love that old school meaty tire look.

No doubt. For a long time I just tried to brake hard and bumper it across the line. Hard to slow down over a half second and the entire field knows your too fast......easy wins for them. Now its just a degree of timing + or - depending on the DA. I will admit I miss the full power runs. Gonna go for a new PB this winter at our test n tune. I think the new Brenspeed faster tune is good for a very low 12. It never gets cool enough here to get really good air so getting the air you mainland guys get wont happen. I think in good air my car has an 11 in it.

Outcelj, I sent an email to Miles as he was the one I talked to on the phone. I spoke to 3 tuners and one said it literally wasnt possible. Another one said it was against NHRA rules! What!!????? The third one, I just didnt have confidence in their ability to tune an auto with my blower etc... Brenspeed fricken ROCKS!! I wore my Detroit Rocker shirt that night cause I had so much confidence in this tune I really felt like I was could win. Wanted that picture with it on. LOL

Those are some surprising comments from the tuners you talked too. Not possible is crazy and against NHRA rules. Never heard of that. I guess it makes for a good read on the forums. I have the same shirt and I wear it every time I go to the track. I posted my timeslip of my PB on the main forum tonight. I did it underneath the wheelstud comparison thread. I bought new wheel studs for a winter project.

Yes I lost a lot of faith in some of those tuners. For the most part I think they were being lazy and didnt want to take the time to figure it out. Kinda sad really. The one guy I think his exact words were "you would be disqualified" for slowing the car down. I translated that into against the rules as I race at a NHRA track. Ah no matter I love my setup now.

You need to add your ET to your sig Outceltj.......be proud of that rocket you pilot!

808Muscle,

Congratulations on the Trophy man, that's really impressive! I agree that bracket racing is a lot of fun and if slowing your car down is necessary to race in a certain bracket, then slow it down. Did you ever give Bama a call? I'm confident our head tuning specialist Mike Wilson could also help you qualify in the 12.90 Bracket!

Our bullitt wheels look awesome on your car and so does the beefy tire! Keep up the great work and let me know if you ever have any questions. Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266. I can also have one of them call you directly.

-Dan

Dan I will say I was NOT talking about AM. I have nothing but good things to say about your company. Did you get my email I sent last week? I will PM you.

I really love the phat tire look. The 18's I use for DD just look boring now. LOL I had another guy comment on how good they look said I should get some matching front wheels.!

I've followed most of your threads on here over the years and I think you have the right idea. You are pushing yourself as a driver within what you setup is very capable of, it is very easy to always want more power but you sound like you just love the competitive of the racing which I think is cool. Congrats on the win.
