Default Inquiry/story

So, I was coming back from a one day trip out of state, and as I approached the last interstate I have to use to get home, I come upon a 93-02 style Camaro.

Now I normally drive 80-85, this is just my comfort zone, and I am willing to take the speeding ticket if I get stopped.

So as I approach the vehicle I notice they begin to accelerate as I just get past the front bumper of the car. At this point we're going into a very tight turn, I am on the outside, so I have to back off just a hair to make sure I have the footing to take the turn at 80-85.

They begin to accelerate in the turn, and as we exit it I came up along side, still in 6th, now at 90. they start to pull ahead for a sec, so I down shift to fourth, and just hammer the accelerator. The 3.73 coupled with the nitto NT555 just tear into the payment, and car just blasts past this Camaro, and I approach about 130 when I pull 5th, at this point I am now slowly approaching the 150 mark, but have clearly pulled away by considerable lengths, and back way off once I get about an estimated 15-20 car lengths ahead.

At this point I consider it over... so I get it back down to 85. Suddenly, the Camaro, a Z-28 BTW, comes screaming up along side... doing the 3 horn beep, signaling they want to go at it again. I decline, as to me it is a done deal.

Is it me, or are people now refusing to admit defeat? I am 41 and if you went at it and lost you consider it over and done with, when did it start that you have to do a second run to prove who has the better car, or am I misreading into this?

As long as the road is very clear. Theres no harm in running them a couple of times. I mean how often do you really get a chance to run em?

It sounds like all they wanted was a fair run, not just you going wot without warning. Nothing worse than thinking you might get a good run with a guy and all they do is take off, then try to actually line up and they just ignore you.

I agree with what the others said.

BTW, nice looking '13 you have!! I had a 3.73 geared M6 '11 GT and they won't run anywhere near 130 MPH in 4th gear.

I didn't say I was doing 130, I said I was approaching it... The needle was moving quick I looked quick.

Same here, these boys nailed it.^^ That guy just wanted an even start...

93-02 F-bodies consisted of two different cars, similar but different. LT1 and LS1 is the biggest difference, but even the LS1s had different heads, intake manis, cam, exhaust manifolds, etc from 98 thru 02. Stating 93-02 doesn't narrow which one it was down very much.

Well now I know for next time... normally in my younger days it was a redlight run, but HWY, if you both gunned it whoever pulled away fastest usually was considered the winner if they hung onto it for a while.

But to what another said... I don't see a 93-02 Z28 or even the SS in those years, stock, which this appeared to be aside from a modded exhaust can take down a 5.0. I could be wrong, but I believe the 5.0 has the HP and TQ advantage. if it was a 2010 or newer I would agree.

Eh, thats a highly debatable subject. Stock for stock is close, especially with the 01-02 SS. And doing any mod to the LS1, particularly exhaust mods, almost ensures a win for the LS. Like I said, highly debatable...gotta look at a lot more than just HP/TQ ratings. I make about what a stock 5.0 makes, yet I run over a full second faster than a stock 5.0.
