Question What would you pay for this 99 Cobra?

There is this guy local to me and I really am in the market for a new edge Cobra. He is the original owner and seems to have maintained it quite well. He has put some money into the front end and kept it up really nice. The only thing that concerns me is that it has alot of miles on the car (186k)!! He is asking for $6000 and I know i could work him down at leasttt to $5.5 but I want to show you guys and see what you think.

let me know! thanks

ps- it wont be a dd, just a summer/fun car

It looks good from what you can see in the pics, if no noises from the engine, trans, rear end, i would think $4500 is more like it,, that is where i would start no more than $5500, unless of course the whole drivetrain has been rebuilt, then that is a whole new can of worms, who did it, how good are they,,,,,,,ect.!!

Thanks for the reply snake. I think the car looks like its in solid shape, of course there are alot of miles on it, but I wanna rebuild the motor eventually anyways. The only big concern I have is I spoke on the phone with him, he says that there are a couple lil spots of surface rust (door sills and lil on the roof)
. Is that common on an 11 year old car like that? It was his Daily Driver for work in the summer tho....

My Gt was my DD for 3 yrs in Philadelphia and i had no signs of rust. That would be a big red flag to me.

yeah Crimzon it was a flag to me. I am having him send over some pictures before I even drive all the way out to check on the Cobra. I mean would a car with that many miles, and possibly some surface rust............be worth about $5k? The pluses are: he is the original owner, has done excellent maintainence, put in some good money into front end repairs and has plenty of spare tires, parts and all documentation. He is only selling because they are having new baby. I don't mind having to work on the car some, because I really want to. I know I would probably wind up getting a new paint job anyways, as long as its minimal surface rust, that shouldnt be too big of an issue right?

Surface rust would be a red flag for me also. If you do end up getting this car the first thing I would do would be getting that taken care of asap.

Edit: I don't know if its the pics or what but the Front bumper, Headlights, and Fog lights look terrible!

I just bought a 2001 cobra a couple months ago in prestine shape for 11,000 with 70,000 miles.I have seen 99's for less. By the time you get done paying to have body work done and the car repainted. And as you stated a engine rebuild in the near future, and whatever else it may need.You may be better off getting a cobra in better shape for a little more money. It probably will cost you less in the long run than what you are going to spend on this one. Remember it is not only the big things, the small parts can add up quickly to. And were not even talking about the mod bug yet. Just my opinion.

I would pay upwards of $50,000.....

That car has tooooo many miles. Look for one with lower miles. Matter of fact, there was one in my local trader here....let me look for you.
