Default Rear Differential - 97 Cobra

Greetings all. First time on this forum. Be gentle. :^)

I have a '97 Cobra (convertible) with 92k on the clock. I'm the original owner. My usual garage guys tell me, based on a short test drive where they say the rear end noise is abnormal, that I need to have the rear-end rebuilt at a cost of between $800 to 1300. The car sits in the garage 98% of the time, and hasn't been driven regularly for several years. Does this recommendation sound normal, or might a simple fluid change take care of the noise. Car has never been driven hard - mostly highway miles.

Thanks

Jim

Yeah, could have put it in a v8 area, but to answer your question it wouldn't hurt to change the fluids, but it might need the rear end rebuilt based on its age.

That price seems kinda high though. You could re gear with fresh parts for about that and get a bump in the butt dyno along with it.
