Default Welcome to the next generation of the Ford Mustang

The newest incarnation of the mighty Ford Mustang is expected to arrive during the 2014 calendar year with the new platform name S550. Many expect that the S550 will debut on April 17th, 2014 - 50 years to the day that the original 1964 Mustang debuted in New York at the World's Fair.

In the modern automotive world, a Mustang that debuts in April 2014 would most likely be labeled as a 2015 model year vehicle but it is rumored the S550 will be launched with immediate release (just like the original Mustang) for a short model year - although Ford may also bring in the next generation Mustang as a 2015 model year vehicle that will be longer than a usual model year to bolster first year sales.

In any case, this is the section where members can post questions, ideas or information for the next generation of the mighty Mustang!

From the picture posted on the home screen (I know, I know it could change ALOT) it looks like its going to be a really nice looking car. If I had the money I would probably buy one too but being I just got my '11 last year - fat chance. It will be nice to finally have IRS so we can stop hearing how wonderful the "All Mighty Camaro" is, and how much better it is over the mustang because it has IRS.

Doubt this much detail is out yet, but anyone think the IRS can be installed on the s197 chassis, or will there be too much difference with the exhaust/smaller "world" car/ frame rails? If welding connection points for the arms is all it takes then it would be easy. If you have to cut out the rear frame rails then probably not.

well, its getting cold outside again...****in reached down to the 40s the other day. almost can't wait for the snowy stuff............................almost i don't have a twitter account nor have i ever been to a twitter web page (update: i have), but if i ever did decide to take the plunge i will let you know by posting it in this awesome little box of text (update: not really)! i like tacos lol...though between crunchy tacos and soft tacos i cannot really say which one is better. sometimes, the mess a crunchy taco leaves behind is a little annoying while the soft taco just doesn't have the same taste... cake is so much better than pie no, srsly. **** pie. ****ing

That's an interesting platform name just because Mercedes has that model currently iirc.

I'm looking forward to the day they release finalized information such as exactly what the car will look like (that photo looks good) and what the numbers will be for powertrain and fuel economy. I hope the V6 doesn't go away since its a strong engine but a turbo 4 being included may complicate that especially considering other Ford's that used to feature the sixxer now have the turbo 4.

Its going to be funny to read some of the negative reactions for this car LOL.

I would think (hope) ford would use the 3.7 v6.
entry level 3.7L v6 with the engine up 5-15 hp
mid level 2.3L EcoBoost, with about 330 hp.
top level 5.0L coyote, with a little more hp too.
Use both the v6 and turbo for sales comparison.

I thought they said they were going away from the retro look? That pic on the homepage just looks like a beefed up S197 (in my opinion)... Nothing like the jumps in styling through previous generations. Hopefully it's a little bit different than that concept art.

I can't believe Ford would scrap the 3.7 already, they've only had that engine for like 3 years (going on 4?), all the money they put into tooling and development, just to get rid of it this quickly? Hmmm.

I agree. It looks like a 2013 with more aggressive body styling. Hopefully they get away from the retro look. Been a while...

Oh man, everyone take note... I'm going to be the first one to say it.

S550 TEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!1

None of the renderings floating around are even close to being accurate. The 3.7L is a beast... I don't know why they would get rid of it.

Also I wonder how big S550 sigs will be?
