Comments on the 2015 styling? Here is the thread

The following is directed at some members of this forum but certainly not most.
I recall that when the S197 came out, the general public loved it but all the Mustang forums I visited seemed to have sour grapes regarding the new design, with the general theme being that Ford should have taken a step forward with a more futuristic design instead of taking a step back with a retro design. Most of these people owned SN-95's. But at this point, I'm pretty sure many of those people have bought an S197.
I also recall that when the 2010 update came out, it was received well by the general public but the forum crowd seemed to hate it, most notably the 2005-2009 S197 owners. "If this is the new Mustang than I'll keep my 2005!" In fact I think most SN-95 owners liked it. After the 2011 the power jump happened and many of these people ditched their early model S197 for the face lifted car.
Now the S550 comes out and the public loves it, I mean really loves. Many of my co-workers have gone out of their way to mention to me how cool the new car is. Yet it's the same old "I'll keep my old Mustang blah blah blah" over here at Mustang forums.
People don't like change and they don't like when their car is no longer current.
For those of you who are complaining that it looks like the Fusion, hello, this is extremely common. The Mustang has spent many successful years (far more successful generations than the S197) carrying the current Ford corporate design theme. The Fox body "looks" like a Escort, the SN-95 "looks" like a Taurus or Escort ZX2, the SN-95 New Edge "looks" like the updated Taurus and the Mustang II "looks" like a Pinto. Those cars were all Mustangs and they "looked" like a Mustang because they were a Mustang.
One more thing, I can't take anymore of this "Ford ruined a good thing." I love my S197 but look at the sales numbers, they suck, something needs to change if we want this car to carry on into the future.
Sorry for the rant but the stuff I read in here is starting to frustrate me. I was born and raised on Mustangs, my grandfather owned about 30 when I was growing up. Machs, Shelby's and Boss cars. My Dad had and has Mustangs, my best buddies do and so do I. For the record, I ****ing love the new car.

And when you look at the definition of what a Mustang Muscle Car is, none of these are it, it is a fact of Americana. So I guess you are just more of a mustangy guy than me. I liked my 70 Mach 1 because it was a muscle car, I laughed at the SN95 Mach 1, and while the COBRA R was a performer, I could care less. My buddy had and loved his Fox with a built 302 back in the late 80's and it was fast enough, but not a muscle car... in comes the S197 and it ushered in a revival for the what was long ago the big 4 now down to 3 to build the Challenger and the Camaro to compete and you bet it took some sales away from the S197 but it was an awesome time while it lasted. I would wager to say it ushered in the Resto-mod era as well. I can see why some think it's time has passed, as they are obviously much more progressive and with the times as dictated by the designers and marketeers at Ford.
So while you "real" mustang guys want I us fair weather guys to jump on the bandwagon, all I can say is enjoy your Techno-Euro wannabe bimmer Mustang, I will be looking for a 70 Dynacorn shell and build my own monster that may not corner as well as your car, but it will win for style points and be exactly what I want. And in 30 years, what car will be wanted more by a collector, an S550, an S197, SN95, a FOX? We'll just have to see what history judges I guess, in the meantime I will continue to complain of the good ol days gone by and how things just won't be the same with these new fangled contraptions.... I ain't drinking your Kool-Aid

What is it exactly you miss most about the good ole days? Drum brakes? Biased ply tires? Lap belts? Carbarators? Maybe those awesome AM radios? You mention the defination of Muscle car. So I got curious and looked it up. Here's what I came up with after a quick search. An affordable American car equipped with a V-8 engine and two doors with seating for four. That describes every Mustang made in the past 50 years with the exception of a few years in the 70's. I perfer the term pony car. It grates the muscle car guys. You laugh at the SN95 Mach but it would kick in the teeth of a 70 mach 1. I don't get it? You'll build a 70 and win on style points? According to who? Other guys with old cars? LOL New fangled contraptions. Heaven forbid Ford builds a performance car that can match a European cars handling. If you want something that's only good in a straight line. I get wanting a 70s era car. I've found that being able to turn or stop has always been a handy feature in a performance car-slash-pony car-slash Muscle car.

It still looks pretty retro to me. I guess the front end looks more modern, as the nose curves down more, but that rear end, minus the quarter windows, looks pretty pure retro to me.
I mean, if someone sat me down with a 1968 mustang, and then an S197, and then a S550, I would be like, alright, that makes sense.
But if someone sat me down with a 68, and said, in 83 its going to look like the 83 does, I would kick and scream and do unspeakable things because that was a completely different car. This car screams heritage, it is clearly a mustang.

The main thing is that they *don't* have to be bad in the corners or at braking anymore, and it feels like a some people feel put out that the chief designer targeted the M3 as his performance benchmark. Hey, us allies have always enjoyed beating the Germans
