s197 GT vs Sti
#21
If hes running stock tires still, the STI will be all over him from a dig too. They launch pretty good with the AWD. My buddys Trailblazer SS gains a car right away from a dig because of the AWD on my Jeep and I'm pretty sure I'm makin more power.

What the hell. Mine shows 3488 on kbb.com and that's with a manual transmission.
What did Ford do to lighten these cars up after 06? If anything you would expect heavier due to the chassis changes to handle the 5.4 in the Cobra.

hehe i was going to say.. with just intake/tune and a 2.4 60ft i got a DA adjusted 13.3 :P with the gears, plates, pulleys.. i should be making a little over 300rwhp (auto drivetrain loss.. ftl) and if I had traction before i probably could have pulled a 13.0.. (bad track prep+noob at track on stock tires, it was a test and tune night) oh.. and my O/D doesn't turn off.. getting that fixed soon..
anyway.. I'm leaning towards him beating me his curb weight should be around 3351 (don't think he has lightened it any) and i should be around 3356.. according to interwebs info..
I'll have to drop the spare, jack, 1/4 tank of gas..do some weight savings.. and if i can get traction.. will still be close hehe... time for more mods

Err, sarcasm hopefully? 5lbs will make literally 0 difference in a race, some wise internet members say 100 lbs is good for about .1 seconds.
What gearing does an STi have anyways?

They have 3.90 for gears.. The 5 lbs difference was me illustrating that we weigh similiarly and he should have slightly more whp(maybe-depends on tune) than me from a previous post I made about stage II.. so thats why I was leaning towards him beating me. I've also heard that past 100mph they start really losing power.. and I'm still pulling strong.. so.. if it gets going fast enough... :P
Ofcourse like someone else pointed out.. the weight #s could be off since we haven't actually weighed our cars. but if they are accurate and I can dump 100lbs it might help close the gap a little.. I mostly have to rely on him messing up shifts to beat him I think. (unless that internet info for awhp on a stage 2 sti is wrong)

If he wins comfort yourself in the knowledge that you paid $27K plus mods for your car and he paid $36K plus mods on his.
I would sleep well at night. lol
I'm also leaning towards him winning though I do expect it to be very close and essentially is his to lose. If he gets real good with his transmission and launches it you will have a race on your hands then.

I guess I misunderstood the friend of mine that was relating that info. He won't do 120 in a 35. 120 in a 70? Yeah.
Anyhow the STI has a pretty well built transmission so it shouldn't 'splode like the ones in the older WRX do.
