Default 86 Grand National vs 100 shot 04 Mustang gt

My buddy just got a 86 GN. It has 3 tunes ranging from 15-20lbs of boost. It requires race gas at 20lbs. It has the stock gears, and internals, but full exhaust, upgraded intercooler (not sure about the turbo) and MT dr's on stock rims. The guy who owned it never had it dynoed, or took it to the track.

Anyone familiar with these cars? I know they can potentially be real monsters, but i have no clue what this one might be capable of.

How do you think i might do against it...from a dig and a roll? My mods and numbers are in my sig. I'm guessing i'll need the spray to even have a chance, but i really don't know.

I'll get my chance when spring hits, but i'm really curious right now.

Sounds like he has you covered. I like those bad *** Buicks, not something you see too often.

The Buicks came with a fairly big stock turbo. They were getting low to mid 13s out of the stock 15psi. I'd guess that 20 psi would get it near low 12s. Your car may have low 12s in it also if you drive it like a mad man! But your trap speed will be lower than a turbo cars so the buick will get you from a roll. Advantage Grand national.

Wow, that's a rare car. My guess is you would need to run the juice for this one. They were about 13 second cars, stock, and with those mods it should be in the 12's if the car is healthy IMO.

Do you think this car will see the track this year?

Oh yeah, he's anxious to hit the track lol. He's also really curious about what kind of power it makes. He plans to head to Lidio's dyno day with us in the spring. You gonna be there?

Thanks for the opinions guys. Keep em coming.

No exact day just yet. I talked to him a month ago, and he figures the end of April or first week of March. It's always on a Saturday, and starts at 8am.

He's got a solid mid 12's car, basement 12's with the race gas. With some more boost I wouldn't be surprised if he squeezed out a really high 11.

Well, i just went and saw the car today, and i have to say it's a gorgeous ride. He paid 12.2K and it has 67,000 miles. Apparently the turbo is upgraded (T-4...does that sound right???) and so is the fuel system. He's running the same green 42lb. Bosh injectors as i do, and the interior is perfect.

The guy who owned it before my buddy said (based on some formula with it's current mods, tires, and what not) he thinks it should pull a 12 flat if it hooks with 10psi comming of the line. He also stated that (with this same so called formula that he used) the car should be around 430 hp. I'm not sure if he meant fwhp or rwhp though.

Either way it's one bada$$ ride.

Hell, with a bigger turbo, intercooler, fuel system, tires and race gas I wouldn't be surprised to see mid 11's, especially if he can leave with boost. That's basically what my dad did with his Regal off the foot brake.
