Would it be too farfetched to think of an OHV V8 that spins up to 8k as a stock motor for mass production?

but yes, it's fugly.

As far as the 5.5L, IF they make the engine, it will be interesting to see if they go OHC with it, or in typical GM style manage to develop yet another badassical OHV cylinder head, and just turn more rpm with it. Manufacturing and materials tech has changed a lot over the last 10 years, and 7k rpm pushrod engines aren't difficult to achieve, especially in a higher end car like a Vette.
they're for sure going to make it. they have to have it to meet regulations in the ALMS GT2 racing. it's either that, or Corvette is out of GT2 racing.

GM had one that was damn close to that back in the late 60's. the DZ302

That makes sense then. If it's pushrod, I'm guessing it'll be the next gen LS type head and have a stock 7k rpm redline or somewhere around there. Between that and direct injection, the power goal should be fairly easy to achieve.

This is just a redone LS motor for the GT2 cars. This will not go into a production car. DPI yes, but not this engine.
