Go 4.10's you will wish you did after you pay 300 for the install of your 3.73's!! really it's all up to you....but my suggestion is DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO HAS NOT 1.DONE A GEAR SWAP 2.WHO DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN STOCK GEARS! i paid 133.00 for gears swap an posi install it took about 4 hours! don't just look for price when it comes to install cheaper doesn't=quality! go somewhere that has done them before preferably a race shop.
Just a few misconseptions of 4.10 gears...."you will only beable to go like 60MPH on the highway" BS BS BS! I have had my car to 120 a few times probably faster but thats all it reads!
"you will get horrible gas mileage".....BS BS BS! i only lost roughly 2 MPG!
"you won't be able to control it"....BS BS BS! drive with some sense don't go FT in a turn on wet roads period!
Just a rant sorry! like i said we are here for suggestions IT'S YOUR CAR!
+ ELEVENTYBAZILLION!!
lol! OK, but what is thhe significance of the gears? What does it change? And why are they so much better?
What it changes it the amount of time it takes to get to speed. In other words, 4.10's will get the power to the pavement quicker.

Would it be necessay to buy the Ford Racing modified cross shaft also or is that not necessary for T-Lok?

Nope. I didn't. And it worked just fine. All I got was the FRPP 4.10's and T-Lok, bearing kit, Royal Purple and the DiabloSport tuner.

i hated 4.10's

1. i got 22mpg at best compared to 26.5 with 3.73's
2. you do get poor traction on launches and especially wet roads

3. 3.73's are fine for any year stang
4. 3.45's are pretty damn good too
5. 4.10's give absoutly no advantage in the 1/4 over 3.73's on stock or fullbolt-on or procharged stock engines
6. 4.10 are good for rock crawlers and heavily ported and cammed engines. not stock 3.8's
7. i have been down that road many times and still come back to 3.73's. they are a great gear as well as 3.45's

i have had 2.73's 3.45's 3.73's 4.10's i settled on 3.73's because they are the most forgiving gear that will give as good performance as 4.10's

ever hear of the law of diminishing returns? 4.10's brak that law on stock singleports. they are not needed and offer no benefit over 3.73's on singleports that are stock internally weather procharger,bolto-on or stock

So how much does the 3.45's cost in comparison to the 3.73's? And what would be best for a normal driver - racing here and there with an almost stock 3.8?

General rule of thumb if its an auto go with 4.10, if its a manual go with 3.73. Although if you do a lot of highway driving I would stick with 3.73, thats what i have and i am very happy. You dont need an auburn differential unless your planning on making some serious power. The Ford one is fine. I suggest getting a bigger throttlebody and cold air intake if your going to do the exhaust.

whoever made that rule of thumb up was an idiot.

What is the sense of a cold air intake if it is still sucking the same amount of air through the stock throttlebody. A bigger throttle body will give you more power than a cold air intake alone. If your just using it to cruise dont even waste your money on bolt ons and save for a faster car aka V8, it will give you the sound and power and comes with traction lok stock.
Now THAT statement is total [sm=bs.gif]
A throttle body is a total waste of $$$ on a 6er without porting the intake to match, AND getting the supporting mods. Matter of FACT, you can actually LOSE power with a larger throttle body without the other mods.
exactly.
