Default WHY, WHY , WHY

I have a 04' v6; my sister has a 00' Grand Am Gt. Both weight about the same and the stang makes about 15 more hp. However, with her "GT" tuned transmission, it will outrun the stang all day. At WOT it only takes half for her grand am to shift down and pull at full force. The stang waits 3 seconds before it starts pulling. What can be done to get rid of all the hesitation without a shift kit or j-mod. I am under warranty until the end of next year. I have a SCT Strategy tuner on the way.

The SCT will help reduce auto lag by about...............ehh............let's say 40-60%, but you have to know what you're doing with custom tuning to get those kinds of results. If you had a Diablo, I could help you, but I don't know the parameters of the SCT. To fully reduce auto lag you will need a shift kit, and a higher stall torque converter.

I'd also get a set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears. 3.73 will suit a dialy driver better. You'll also need to look into a rear limited slip differential such as a Ford T-Lok, Eaton, Auburn, or Detroit to help off the line boost furthur as your stock differential is open, and only supplies power to the ground via the right tire.

Do the d 2 d shift. When you're stopped, put it in d and leave it, then when its about to shift into 2nd pull it back into 2 yourself. Then shift it back into D when it's time for 3rd.

I don't know if it'll help you, but it does make shifting faster.

Keep it in Drive!!! D2D will just mess you up. It takes about a second and a half for it to change gears. Pretty sure in 00 The grand am has the 3.0L?? DOHC, there all the same transmission if im not mistaken. I agree with JThorn, get a new stall and install a shiftkit.

A Grand Am GT is a drivers race for a new edge V6. It has less hp but it makes 205 ft/lbs of torque and has a slight weight advantage.
