Default Oiling problem with 3.8L

My old work car is a cougar with a 3.8 V6. I assume the bottom end of this motor is the same as the 3.8L mustangs. When I started it up one morning the oil filter gasket blew out and all the oil sprayed out. I put a new filter and oil in it. When I started it up it ran for about 15 seconds and blew the seal on that one. The oil pressure runs where it's supposed to. Any ideas? It acts like it just keeps building up pressure until it blows the seal.

I would suggest running Seafoam through it but seeing that you cant even run long enough without blowing the seal I guess that isnt an option.

The only thing that I can think of is that there is a clog downstream causing the pressure to blow the seal.

Sorry I cant help anymore

Might be a good time to get a SuperCoupe engine and swap it in

I thought about that but I'm not sure. The oil pressure is where it's supposed to be until it blows the seal. After the seal blows it drops of course. If it was building up pressure to the point of blowing the seal shouldn't I see it on the oil pressure gauge? I took the oil filter housing off the car and realized the oil pump is in there. I don't see any goop or anything in the housing ports or in the block. Any help or ideas will be appreciated.

did you end up with a double-seal?

No it wasn't double sealed. I changed out two new oil filters and it did it both times.

Hahaha, good catch!

Where is the oil pressure sensor on these engines? If it is a clog it has to be between the pump/filter and gauge sensor becasue the gauge is reading regular. I've already blown through the passages in the filter/pump housing and they are completely clear. The night before the car messed up I drove it. The next morning it messed up as soon as I started it up. My first thought was that something out of the filter come lose and was pushed up into the block somewhere. Someone mentioned something about the pump having a regulator in it for the pressure but I haven't found anything like that.

Yep, that's where it's at on this car. It was a major PITA to get off with everything still on there. I had no clue the oil pump was in that housing either. First time I ever seen that.

your stock gauge wont tell you if you have problems with pressure since as long as it reads at least 6psi it will show normal.
i would try a engine flush.
