Oil Change and seafoam - Few Questions :)
Hello guys,
I got an 1998 Mustang with 140k Miles on it.
I Have to change the oil, i heard something about SeaFoam, can you guys tell me something about this? Is that safe for old engines? I dont want leaks...
I just bought this car, i dont know what is done in it.
Also what type of oil and oil filter should i put to this one?
Thanks
Ps. Where i can get a seafoam and is that expensive?

Seafoam has been around for ages, my grandfather told me about it way back when. Directions are on the can. You can add it to your oil for about 50 miles before you get it change it. This is how I do it, 1/3 in the gas thank, 1/3 in the oil before change, and 1/3 in the brake booster(the big circle thing in the engine compartment if front of the steering wheel) vaccum line. When it gets sucked in the brake booster I shut off the car and let it sit for a couple min. Start a little while later and rev it up to clear it all out of the intake and when it stops smoking you're done.

my way of doing it is 1/3 in the gas to clean the injectors and 2/3's through the PCV line. screw the brake booster method. the PCV line is the worst on 3.8 stangs and the vac line is befor the booster line. being before the booster line means the PCV with it's poor oil baffles on any year (especially 99-early 01) needs seafoam ran through the intake from the PCV source. this ensures that oil deposits from the source in the intake will be disolved out. it wont hurt an engine. a 140K 98 engine should be in damn good shape but a good seafoaming will be a good treatment to it. just do it through the PCV vac line. it's easier to access than the booster line but it is smaller so be patient. i use an extra piece of line to do it. just some wiper tube with a plastic connector to connect to the PCV line and enough to reach the bottom of the can. start the engine and let it such the seafoam through. maybe 30 seconds and shut the car off. let it sit 10-15 minutes and reconnect the PCV lines and start it back up and let it run till the smoke dissapears. it should be good to go after that
