Default Exhaust help! Lots of Questions!

I just started looking into an exhaust for my 2004 40th Anniversary V6 Mustang....so if I say something that doesn't make sense don't laugh. Plus I don't really know much about the mechanics of cars... so have patience with me.
I need some reccomendations...
I want that low deep growl. And i want loud! Loud while driving and of course while in idle and accelerating...
So far flowmaster american thunder cat back stands out to me.
What do u all think about o/r h pipes?
Seems to me that most like h pipes over y or x...what about mid or straight?
And what exactly does o/r mean? I know it stands for off road, but what does that mean? And i don't want anything ricey sounding, or anything that will compromise sensors, wont get me through emmisions, or reduces torque.
Also, can i get dual without getting a new rear bumper? I can get it cut out right?
Any other brand preferences over flowmaster? (like dynomax or magnaflow or loudmouth)
american thunder is 2 chambers right? and which is better, stock or MAC longtube headers?
NEED HELP! WANT THIS DONE SOON! THANKS!

People will say that if you want the deep muscle sound, you should get an O/R H pipe with Flowmaster 40s which I believe actually comes with the Cat back your looking at. O/R I believe means without cats. And without cats your check engine light will come on and I don't think you will pass emissions. Many people have dual exhaust without a GT rear bumper.

If I am incorrect about this someone will correct me. I am new and still learning.

I think you're right...i do remember seeing something about no cats, which would result in the check engine light coming on and not passing emissions
Im still learning too...

Don't cut out your rear bumper. If you want a cheap solution, true duals fabbed up at an exhaust shop from the cats back with flow 40's if you ask me. If you really want that deep growl and the best perfromance upgrade as far as exhaust goes, get mac longtubes, mach offroad h pipe, and a flowmaster catback thats designed for the gt because a gt exhaust will bolt up to the mac h pipe. off road means it's not street legal because it wont pass emissions. If you want, you get get the o/r h pipe and buy some high flow cats and have them welded onto it. Then you will pass emissions. Loudest option though no cats.

ok ok this helps...but sounds like i'll be spending more money than anticipated, and doesn't sound like all this can be done at home...
also, someone just told me they don't make h pipes for my year anymore? and my engine is a 3.9L...seems like everything im looking at is for a 3.8 or 4.0
Shaunmac, what are the details with your exhaust? i noticed u said true duals with flow 40s...do u have a gt bumpber or turndowns? and what size is your engine?

I'm pretty sure your engine is a 3.8L and they do make H pipes for you Mustang. If you look hard enough you will find lots of options.

Welcome rach, sorry to come in here and bust up the noob fight..... I gotta love a strong willed virgo chick with a mustang. I'm virgo too, so kindred. Allright, 3.8 and 3.9 are the same thing okay? Just a little more squeezed out of the engine, but when parts refer to 3.8, go with that. Now quit bopping each other on the head. ha ha. You have quite a few things to think about with your exhaust plans. Besides emissions, you've got the johnny law element. Depending on your area, you might wanna reconsider "LOUD" all the time, plus think about your neighbors and noise complaints, all that ****. Ok, now the info:
Mac long tubes:
http://www.stangmods.com/MAC-Long-Tu...ng-p/00636.htm
H-pipe:
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS
then pick your mufflers etc. You are looking at 500 so far not counting install, 02 extensions and mils. budget $1200+ to get the entire job done and you will need a cold air intake to add some throat to the set up.
