What are the advantages and disadvantages of removing the cats
#11
i actually just put cats back on my car i welded two kooks highflow cats into my mac midpipe i will always reccomend leaving cats on from this point i felt a noticible loss in low end even when we retuned the car now its much better on the bottom end plus sounds better

Well I've heard a lot of V6s with different exhaust setups, and o/r mid pipes (catless) do not sound bad, it all depends on the mufflers you go with, generally you want to go with some type of chambered muffler on a V6 rather than an open/more free flowing muffler.
As far as pipe size and cat's or no cats go with a supercharger, its all from personal perspective, however, when you run boost it is important for that car to be able to breath, very important, so in that case I would say you'd need at least high flowing cats to ensure engine safety and longevity. Then again, this all depends on the boost level being ran, just a lot of variables to this one, only way to really know is to go to a dyno, and do multiple runs with multiple different engine setups, and see what works best.

ok i got ya. i mean i was planning on getting my longtubes and catted shorty hpipe from mac and just gutting the cats but im not doing F/I just yet because i dont have the money so maybe when i do go F/I i will gut them

Ok so If i gut the last two cats and keep by divorced setup of thrush mufflers out 2.25 inch piping how would that sound? I believe the mufflers are chambered so can I expect better sound in exchange for less power and the car needing more fuel?

i doubt the car will need more fuel. plus gutting the cats will throw a check engine light and you wont pass emissions. if i were you id just leave them on or get long tubes if you want better sound for now. ditch the cats only if you need to down the road

Where I live there are no emission test that I need to pass. I'm just strictly looking for sound. Would you remove your own cats if they were not legally checked each year? I'm fine with the check engine light being on as I plan on keeping the car until it can no longer be used.

I live in a part of Pennsylvania that doesn't require emissions and I would still keep them on. I like the sound of my car right now (could maybe be just a hair louder) but I would rather have the performance than sound.
