Default 3.8 -> 4.6 build thread *DONE*

I posted this in the 4.6 section as well but figured a lot of people on this side of the forum would be interested in this as well...

I'm sure a lot of people ask about this and what not, and now my buddy is going to do it so I'll update this thread with everything needed for it and some pics/help. So that when people search for this hopefully this comes up.

So here's the victim...

Mods done to it at this time are a mac catback which will be getting reused, 8.8 rear with 3.73's, upr u/l control arms, h&r springs, mm cc plates, sct tuner, and all the visual mods you can see in the pics.

It becomes real tomorrow as we're going to get a 4.6 out of a later model 2001 gt. It's coming with the motor(longblock, all accessories included besides a/c), wiring harness, ecu, ccrm, fuel line, coolant overflow, radiator hoses, motor mounts, a few other odds and ends that may be needed as well. also included are a steeda cai, accufab plenum, and bbk u/d pullies.

The next purchase will be a tremec 3650 with a d/s, stage 2 clutch, and mgw shifter. He'd like to keep his t5 in it and just get a new clutch/flywheel and bell housing but not sure if he'd need more than that or not, so just planning on an entire trans swap.

After that all that's needed are the hydroboost m/c and associated hoses, radiator and fan assembly, gt instrument cluster, and then longtubes and a midpipe. That should be the just of what is needed. Pics of the motor and everything will come tomorrow and updates will be made whenever purchases are made. The swap itself will not be happening until closer to spring, now is just the time to save up some cash to get all the parts. Once the build begins this will be getting updated often with lots of pics/progress updates as we're gonna try and do most of this in a weekend.

the best numbers he could produce with the setup he had was...
dyno: 161/195
1/4: 14.9@91, 1.8 60'

he's hoping for another 100 hp and low 13's after the swap.

i don't see why anyone would be mad. I tried to convince the guy to build the v6 and throw boost at it, but he just wanted a v8, nothing replaces that v8 rumble lol. and there is no option to sell the car and buy a gt. so this is all that's left. seriously, the swap doesn't seem bad at all. nothing like what people make it out to be. we'll see how it goes.

I completely agree, I've heard some amazing V6's but nothing sounds like a V8.

Make sure at the end to post the over all price tag, and the RWHP number so we can see the dollar per hp number.

And I agree: Nothing sounds like a V8.... I love hearing them when they catch up.

Oh well you tried to convince them to do it the intelligent way, now they will learn the mistake the hard way.

I've been saying this for a while now, but the bench racing elite on the sixxer forum seem to think it's harder than turning water into wine. Hopefully everything goes well and the pictures/documentation provide for a nice sticky =)

obviously the horsepower to dollar ratio will not be good. he'll have a bolt on 4.6 when done so maybe 260-270whp? that's 100 more than he started. and he's prolly gonne end uppaying around 2500-3000 for everything. so it's not really worth it, besides that he'll have a better base to start with. but, i tried convincing him the easy and smart way, he's just stuborn lol.
