Could be alot of things. What year, how many miles, any mods, auto or 5 speed, when was the last time you did a tune up (fuel filter, spark plugs, wires)??

Besides the basic tune up try backing off the gas pedal a little. I've gotten 23mpg and I have full off road exhaust, 3.73 gears, and 89 performance tune through a 5spd tranny. That's mixed driving and using my heavy right foot.

+1. Even with my cam and other mods, extremely heavy right foot I still manage about 17 city 25 highway (at 80)

Replace your plugs and wires, especially if you don't know the last time they were done.

Also, don't forget to check your blinker fluid and muffler bearings, I heard they can drop your mpgs.

EDIT: 1000th post!
