Default Question about differential?

Okay so heres the thing. First off, i know our cars are known for their one wheel burnouts. I was about to pick up an lsd today, but thought hmm my car had the intake on when i got it, as well as a sweet sounding exhaust. so maybe it already had it. i have no idea what to check for but living in a college home with my friends and having a front and back yard big enough for 30+ cars and it being almost solid sand we do quite a few donuts and whatnot. so i brought my car over to one of our few patches of grass, and let em spin. what i saw was that where my car had been, the grass was torn out on both sides, exactly the same. it looked to me like i may well have one already from this, but again im a noob and it may just be the loose ground. any idea if it may be an lsd already? or how to tell without tearing it all apart?

Open diff or LSD you will get both wheels spinning in grass, sand, mud, ect, you need to get on solid pavement and floor it while someone watches.

jack up the rear, both wheels and support with jack stands. put the car in neutral, release the e-brake and turn one of the tires, do both turn the same or different ways. also if they turn the same way, put it in gear or park and turn the same wheel, is there a lot of resistance or does the opposing wheel turn backwards freely. most 5.0 mustangs come with a ford traction lock (posi for you gm guys) the drag can be adjusted by the combination of steel plates and clutches.

hope this helps

Now is the time to do some easy maintinance and learn something at the same time. Take off the cover and look. While you are at it you can replace your rear end fluid at the same time.
