Default Running Duals in V6 SN95

I recently obtained a stainless dual exhaust system off a GT (SN95). Just wondering if I should cut cats and add a H pipe? Need some suggestions Thanks

All you need is a 94-98 V6 h pipe, a shop can fab it all in for you for about $100-150.

You can also have a shop just cut out the y pipe and fab in straights, or a cheap h system, for a little more, just make sure they use quality stainless steel and not steel as it will rust.

I should note though that a mid pipe has zero performance difference for a V6, due to the even fire nature of the engine, however the type of mid pipe will affect sound drastically. I prefer the sound of the H pipe, straights are OK too. I had an x pipe way back on the day on a V6 and it was OK, but did get raspy up top.

Your exact setup is also the only one I have ever heard that sounds decent without cats as well.

I have a question kinda like the op's. (Didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread once i found this one.) Anyways,. I bought my v6 about a year and a half ago and never knew until today that the exhaust is illegal. I was told by the shop today that my pipes come out of the headers, through both cats and mufflers, and then they were chopped off right after. I was planning on buying a new system very soon but i dont know exactly what i need. i am wondering if i need this http://www.americanmuscle.com/pacese...it-9904v6.html . Can i just buy this system and have it installed right behind my cats http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...-violator.html. I am wanting two straight duals if its possible.

Well here's what I heard. There are 4 "cats" on my car. The top two are resonators and the ones behind that are the cats. If the cats are cut and the resonators are left on, will there be any codes thrown? Also what will the sound and performance be like then?

I had the back two cats cut left front ones, h pipe and two resonators. Sounds great, no noticeable performance increase or decrease, as well as NO codes.

There is nothing "illegal" about that set up. Those are called dumps, meaning the exhaust is cut short either after the mid pipe or after the mufflers and the sound/exhaust is "dumped" on the ground using the ground to amplify the sound. Only "illegal" setup, and this has to do with smog checks, is on 96 and newer cars having all 4 cats removed. Some local communities may have noise ordinances that may make a car illegal in that area if the sound exceeds a certain decible but that's about it. Only other illegal part would be if your exhaust is busted and pieces are hanging loosely under the car potentially causing safety and road hazards.
